Gilead Sciences GesmbH is an exceptionally successful affiliate with impressive perspectives in existing and future therapeutic areas.  Recent and upcoming product launches in the areas of hemato-oncology, HIV, NASH and inflammation have seen the demand for Gilead Sciences therapies grow even further.  The Austrian operation is a key contributor among the subsidiaries in the EMEA Region 1.  In order to support the commercial growth of the organisation, we now need to hire an Associate Director, Commercial Operations.  


Specific Responsibilities and Skills

The AD, Commercial Operations is reporting directly into the GM. We are looking for an advanced expert and experienced leader who will manage projects of significant complexity, requiring substantial cross-functional collaboration, with a customer service specialist (contractor) reporting into this role.

The position leads the Commercial Excellence, Distribution and Customer Services functions. This will involve covering a very broad range of responsibilities including forecasting, market research, the development and execution of sales force effectiveness strategies and incentive schemes.  In addition, the position resumes responsibility and oversight in the management of the Gilead Austria supply chain, third party logistic partner and customer services management. The role will play a significant and important role in the Commercial Organisation, liaising extensively with the business unit teams and leads as well as close collaboration with the functions Finance, Development Operations (Regulatory, PV) and the GM. The Associate Director Commercial Operations will also play a significant part in designing new ways of working which will make a real impact on the success of Gilead Sciences in the Austrian Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences Markets.

Essential Responsibilities:


Commercial Excellence:


- Advise BUs and GM on commercial excellence aspects of the business.
- Come up with proposals for business process improvements proactively.
- Appropriately challenge and guide BU teams based on thorough business analytics.
- Lead the business analytics processes for budget planning, last estimate generation and market reviews (management of patient models, forecasting, market sales and registry data analysis and interpretation).
- Manage performance reporting including development and maintenance of various dashboards and management of HQ reporting (“ARC”).
- Management of operational effectiveness planning and reporting, with a special focus on sales force.
- Management of sales force incentive schemes and processes.
- Oversight of all local market research projects, advise and contribute to specific MR projects. Management of data vendors, including purchasing (screening, selection, negotiation and purchasing of qualitative and quantitative research data).
- Champion for local implementation of Gilead owned selling model “ELITE-P”.


- Training: Coordinate and contract commercial trainers based on BU needs, ensuring alignment on approaches across BU, be the link with HQ, be aware of what is going on in other countries/listening to the needs from the field and BUD, and facilitate solutions to be implemented by experts.


- Coaching: Provide the framework/process, supporting the BUD capabilities development through external/SP trainers and resources, providing the relevant tracking tools.


- X-Functional Key Account Management: Ensure process is understood and followed (right structure, right approach and tools, right members, right meeting frequency, right monitoring) and look at the required capabilities to be developed.


Distribution and Customer Service:


- Leadership of one customer service specialist (contractor).
- Flawless cooperation and communication with resp EMEA HQ functions.
- Monthly demand forecasting in collaboration with BUs.
- Returns and complaint management.
- Effective communication with customers and partners in the distribution chain.
- Management of the 3PL (third party logistics partner).
- Month closure management and daily ex-factory sales administration and reporting.


Knowledge, Skills and Experience:


- Typically requires an academic degree with an emphasis in business, scientific or liberal arts or equivalent and significant relevant experience in the pharmaceutical industry including having familiarity with marketing, strategy, sales and commercial policies.
- A strategic thinker with the ability to formulate, develop and execute operational marketing strategies that take into account different country situations and portfolio trade-offs.
- Experience in forecasting, market research and pharmaceutical sales force effectiveness.
- Product launch experience ideally at within specialist care and across international markets.
- Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of relevant software systems and platforms.
- Able to prioritize activities and allocate time to different assets.
- Strong interpersonal skills are needed with the ability to lead and build working relationships internally and externally.
- Requires proven communication skills with an ability to efficiently and productively communicate both orally and in writing with fluidity in English.
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets is required. 
- Must have demonstrated excellence in project management and effectively managing multiple projects and priorities. 
- Ability to lead in a matrix team. 
- Ability to recognize and interpret business issues/opportunities and recommend solutions through analysis.
- Ability to assume full responsibility for accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of deliverables completed
- Ability to effectively communicate technical and qualitative information to non-technical executives through interpersonal, verbal, and written channels.
- Ability to manage projects and multi-task in a deadline-intensive environment.
- Must have the ability to use analytical tools and the ability to conduct analysis. 
- Knowledge and experience of digital channels utilization would be preferred.

The minimum salary for this position is EUR 70.000, with a flexibility for higher salary based on qualification and experience.
