The Principal Production Automation Systems is the SME (Subject Matter Expert) who provides elevated technical support and governance to operational and project teams. They are responsible for maintaining and governing the operational blueprint for the applications within their area of responsibility. Production Automation Systems includes critical supply chain applications for Rail Control Planning, Scheduling and Control, Port Scheduling and Production Systems Monitoring. Reporting to the Superintendent Production Automation Systems, your key accountabilities will include:
Provides subject matter expertise to support teams to resolve priority incidents, identify root cause of failure and implement complex changes
Guides and coaches Technology Technicians across the sub function
Identifies and contributes to automation of tools and processes to continuously improve both reactive and proactive activities
Provides back up coverage to the Superintendent during times of absence
Updates work requests with an accurate scope of work, to support effective planning of work
Optimises the collaboration within the team to support the effective planning of delivery
Acts as Level 2 & 3 escalation for other sub functions requiring subject matter expertise
Participates in the planning of business unit disaster/service recovery plans and actively participate in the regular tests as required
To be successful in this role, you will have at least 5 years’ relevant post-qualification experience in integrating critical production systems applications, preferably open source (Linux, Python, Hadoop). As SME and key escalation point, you will have outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to manage stakeholders across all organisational levels including senior management.
You are likely to have a tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline or possess the equivalent IT/OT experience. You have a strong background in Agile/SCRUM, ideally with prior experience in service delivery. Familiarity with ITIL, SAP and ServiceNow (or similar ITSM systems) will be advantageous in this role.
As the preferred candidate, you will be a resourceful and collaborative problem-solver who can deal with complexity and distil key issues from a variety of stakeholders. You will operate effectively across a team and ensure effective execution of tasks in a dynamic environment. Your ability to manage and prioritise multiple tasks, projects and stakeholders simultaneously will be critical. You are a highly logical thinker, with good analytical skills with an excellent understanding of root cause analysis. Prior team leading and mentoring experience will be looked on favourably.
