About the opportunity
The University of Sydney is seeking a Research Fellow to manage and conduct research in a wet laboratory specialising in geriatric pharmacology, at the Kolling Institute; under the direction of conjoint Professor, Sarah Hilmer. The laboratory investigates the effects of therapeutic drugs in old age, using a range of techniques common in pharmacology and ageing research. It is part of a translational research group that also conducts clinical, population and implementation research on quality use of medicines in old age. The key responsibilities of this position will be:
- undertaking original research (either independently, or as part of a team) within geriatric pharmacology
- building and maintaining a research profile which meet University expectations and standards
- developing research collaborations which will improve policy or practice
- contributing to the strategic direction of the University, Kolling and Ageing and Pharmacology Laboratory

- has acquired a PhD in an academic field relevant to geriatric pharmacology
- has a developing research profile evidenced by original, high-quality and independent published research in the disciplines of ageing and/or pharmacology
- possesses experience conducting experience in vivo studies and in wet lab techniques, including histology, immunohistochemistry and western blotting
- has demonstrated expertise in wet lab management, including occupational health and safety, ethics and project management
- holds a developing network of relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, as well as relevant partners and stakeholders
- can demonstrate a developing expertise in research management, including budget management
The incumbent will also have a demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively across a range of media and forums.
