Garth is passionate about problem solving – analyzing complex scenarios and providing optimized solutions. He has spent seven years as an engineer within the rail industry, and three years as a director and consultant servicing the construction industry.

    Co-founded AEGM Solutions (Pty) Ltd and is currently a director in the concern. The role includes operations management, business development and engineering consulting. The combination of technical skills and business acumen has allowed AEGM Solutions to be profitable within its first year. Within the role, I: - Translated client requirements into feasible solutions, allowing them to expand their offerings and service their current and potential clients to a greater degree.  Ensured legal compliance of design and operational activities, as regulated by ECSA.  Designed and presented a modular fleet of equipment for a client, reducing their manufacturing, maintenance and transportation costs.  Managed engineers and support staff, also supporting their development by mentoring and training courses.  Established and maintained strong relationships with clients and senior stakeholders.  Coordinated the concern’s financial activities, ensuring efficient and optimised operations.

    February 2013 - at Present


    This term involved the successful completion of an ‘Engineer in Training’ programme (2 years) and promotion to management in the National Design Office. During this period, Garth:  Lead a team of technicians in the design and production of a modular coach structure, to be used as a platform for future designs. The initiative was to facilitate mass production and significantly reduce lead times. This also involved the management of cross-functional team and the coordination of project deliverables.  Conducted numerous finite element analysis and modifications on equipment and rolling stock, in order to validate their safety for use according to industrial specifications.  Designed and/or facilitated numerous equipment and process improvement initiatives.  Managed the verification and analysis of national plant equipment.  Mentored graduates to ensure their development into competent engineers and technicians.
