AVP, FINANCIAL REPORTING
The AVP, Financial Reporting will manage a dynamic team that is responsible for completing and synthesizing the monthly financial close across accounting.
In addition, the AVP will provide insight and produce financial reporting documents for executive, board and regulatory audiences. The person in this position interacts with nearly every department in the company, therefore developing relationships with key stakeholders is critical.
While current company knowledge is not required, the AVP will be expected to develop deep business familiarity to enable the production of financial reporting materials that reflect an accurate assessment of the financial results leading to informed business decisions by the company.
The AVP, Financial Reporting reports to the VP of Accounting.
Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to the following:
Lead a team responsible for the execution of financial reporting, in collaboration with other peer AVPs within the finance group
Provide analysis and quality control of data and deliverables, and apply financial controls to ensure accurate and timely financial close activities and business reporting
Inspire team in transformational activities bringing to bear strong data governance and enhanced dashboard reporting capabilities
Ensure the integrity of transactional data and reporting
Play a lead role in defining, communicating and implementing processes and controls
Provide oversight to general accounting and monthly close activities
Develop and maintain a strong process for consolidating and assimilating complex financial data into timely reports for internal and external purposes
Manage and review the work of direct reports and other staff
Establish a collaborative environment that focuses on strong relationships, provides actionable insights and drives key business decisions
Build strong matrix relationships with key partners in finance, operations, and technology
Ensure accurate reporting in line with monthly, quarterly and annual deadlines
Oversee accounting policies and procedures, monitor internal control compliance
Manage and participate in global corporate projects affecting accounting processes
Lead the production of IFRS, GAAP, and/or STAT financial statements, variance analysis, and development while monitoring key metrics
Monitor compliance with regulatory requirements; provide research and guidance on a variety of accounting and business issues
Manage the insurance tax reporting and compliance at the local level
Identify financial trends leading to insightful recommendations for financial projections and supporting material
Other projects as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or another quantitative discipline, required. MBA, preferred
CPA designation, preferred
Industry designations such as CPCU, preferred
Strong financial acumen or financial reporting experience, required
Knowledge of GAAP, STAT, IFRS, Tax accounting, required
A minimum of 10 years of accounting experience in either public accounting or a corporate environment, required
Experience in Internal/external audit experience, preferred
A minimum of 5 years of insurance experience
A minimum of 2 years of leadership experience with direct reports
Advanced Excel skills, including the use of macros, pivot tables, and other advanced functions
Proven ability to identify solutions and drive change
Project management skills are a plus
Strong experience using data mining and reporting tools such as COGNOS, Oracle or similar programs; SAP a plus
Experience in developing, documenting and evaluating internal controls
Must have prior experience leading process improvement projects, including exposure to process improvement tools, techniques, and best practices
Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship now or in the future
