Forget Santa Claus. This holiday season, let Patricia Field be your go-to for the most unique holiday gifts. Starting today, the legendary stylist and store owner is bringing her brand of downtown cool to Dover Street Market for an exclusive shop-in-shop of seasonal goodies. The theme? Art in fashion.

“There’s a post-primitive, impressionistic art movement that’s back—the Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Kenny Scharf kind of late ’70s, ’80s art movement. It’s about painting on clothing,” explains Field of her inspiration. “Basquiat used to come in my shop when he didn’t even have a place to live, and he would be in there painting sweatshirts and jumpsuits. I’ve had that relationship with artists since then, and this movement is coming back again with new artists and some of the original artists.” Among the list of artists new and old participating in Field’s DSM shop are Suzan Pitt, Scooter La Forge, and Apostolos Mitropoulos. Field has also designed a line of Keith Haring jewelry that takes his most famous iconography—the barking dog, for example—and turns it into wearable pendant necklaces and cuffs.

Nestled on DSM’s fourth floor, Field’s shop is laid out to evoke the marketplace feel of her Bowery boutique, filled with goodies high and low. “My shop, I feel it as more of a bazaar than anything else. It’s not a designer boutique. When you walk into my shop, you never know what you’re going to find. There’s a wide range of categories as well as prices, so it’s kind of like a surprise. You can find something for $10 and you can find something for $1,000, and it all lives together,” Field notes. “Style is not about money. Some of the most stylish people are people who have a little money and a huge imagination.”

Every item in Field’s DSM space will also be unique to the store. “I am truly exclusive, because the only way to get what I have if you want it is to come to my shop or to my website,” she says proudly. “And I want to try to spend as much time at Dover Street as I can, to add to the personalization element of what the shop is.” See an exclusive preview of the space here, but trust us, you’ll want to experience it in person, too.

Dover Street Market is located at 160 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY 10016.
