#4 Thanks @Donna-Luisa Eversley, your observations are spot on. Evolution of any kind, such as that of an organization's culture, takes time. Diversity is not only about differences in economies (i.e. one labor force is cheaper than another), but also about differences in values and thought processes, which, if properly addressed, can bring out the best of the best.

As it relates to competitive advantage, I do believe there are times diversity can bring a labor market which hopes to prove its worth by producing quality product or service at a reduced price. Of course there are other variables involved, like the cost of 'training' and 'train-ability'and cost of time. But when growing manufacturing plants for competitive advantage, these are short term investments, which also enhance the utility of the investment. ( my apologies for the length)...exciting stuff! Traditional type organisations will not support diversity, and they need to adapt to accept the benefits of different cultures coming into the organisation. My thinking may be a bit radical, but I strongly believe some of the issues of changing an organisation's culture can be rectified with a big dose of diversity! Approaching change becomes a lot different when real structural change takes place. " in order for an organization to realize the benefits of possessing a multicultural workforce, the starting point must be the structure of the organization itself." I will probably have to come back to add to this comment as its quite a fascinating topic! Thank you for sharing your vast knowledge Jeff Halfen MBA,CP
