The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally – is the premier and dominant motorcycle event of the year in American biker culture. It is the first full week in August, situated in the shadows of the Black Hills; Sturgis, South Dakota. 2015 marked the 75th Anniversary of its' inaugural event. Although it is currently widely celebrated as a Harley Davidson event – the origins began with an Indian Dealership coming to town. In 1936, Clarence "Pappy" Hoel purchased an Indian Motorcycle Franchise in Sturgis, SD. and was an impetus for the formation of the Jackpine Gypsies Motorcycle Club. Two years later, the first Sturgis® Rally, was launched - known as the Black Hills Classic with a center piece endurance race of 9 bikes and a small audience.
