The Avanti - A 'Gentleman's Sporting Car'
1963-4 Studebaker Avanti , America's other Plastic Fantastic, build in only 4600 examples , powered by the 289 ci in normal aspiration or the unobtainium of the supercharged Rs model. Built to rival and run against the style houses of Europe it was to be an executive sports car, one that you could even haul the brats if you needed to, plush leather interior with aircraft inspired console overhead, a heavy frame and suspension, put the cars weight at nearly 3400 lbs (the 64 Mustang also with 289 motor was 2000 lbs) this would be the last car of merit that Studebaker built, it is a shame as it is their most stylish in my opinion.
