Purpose


The Data Operations Lead is responsible for implementing and executing on our data standards. They will monitor compliance with Data Sharing Agreements, manage data in official data sources, review and implement Data Quality standards as well as measure Data Quality within the domain and develop evidence of compliance. The Data Operations lead is also responsible for identifying Data Quality issues and analyzing root causes for those issues. They will be required to manage, execute and track remediation plans within the domain


They will contribute to the overall success of Data Transformation ensuring specific individual goals, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the Data Stewards business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. Reporting to the VP/SVP Data Steward the Data Operations Lead is also responsible for Standing up the Data Domain in conjunction with the Data Stewards, the business leaders who are ultimately accountable for a domain’s activities as a secondary role by executing the Data strategy that allows Scotiabank to use data as an enterprise wide asset


Accountabilities


- Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.


- Lead Domain working groups


- Collaborate with the Data Management roles for domain activities


- Support the Data Sponsor on domain activities


- Support the Data Steward on domain and sub-domain scope and boundaries


- Works closely with the Data System Custodian to execute the enterprise data strategy


- Support the Metadata Enterprise Repository as defined in the framework to reflect the domains identified business terms


- Ensure definitions are applied to all of the Critical Data Elements in the Domain


- Ensure the Critical Data elements prioritization process principles are adhered to


- Support the Domain Working Groups in developing data quality rules and metrics


- Support the Domain Working Groups in identifying and managing data issues


- Support the identification of continuous improvement opportunities that will have a positive impact on our bank


- Develop risk mitigated strategies to ensure successful maintenance of the data domain


- Work with other Business leads to provide consultation


- Implement mechanisms to ensure data domain initiatives are aligned to both corporate strategy and the Data Office mandate


- Support success metrics to constantly evaluate progress


- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

- Escalating blockers and issues to the Data Steward and the Data Office leadership for resolution


Education and Other Requirements


- Bachelor’s Degree in business, finance, economics or other relevant field


- Masters / MBA considered an asset


- 5 to 8 years of progressive work experience in data (in specific domain, as appropriate)


- Prior experience in a project environment and familiar with project life cycle management


- Experience working in an agile environment is considered an asset


- Knowledge of Scotiabank’s operations sufficient to understand and lead the implementation of strategic initiatives across a number of disciplines


- Comprehensive knowledge of data management and principles sufficient to analyze and interpret complex concepts


- Exceptional leadership skills to review processes and procedures to create efficiencies, eliminate duplication and provide organization support to achieve business objectives


- Strategic thinking and strong ability to create an effective Data Management Model that will create a competitive edge for the Scotiabank


- Strong relationship management with an ability to establish productive relationships between various leaders, departments and partners across the organization


- Ability to manage significant transformation change initiatives while maintaining a high level of employee engagement and focus


- Well-developed communication skills including precise articulation of ideas and opinions


- Solutions oriented and ability to develop and create innovative solutions to critical business or organizational data issues
