Position: Performance Kitchen Head Chef

Type: Full time temporary role with limited benefits (seasonal contract)

Pay Rate: 23/hour CAD

Location: MLB Clubhouse Toronto, CA

Supervisor: Blue Jays Head of Nutrition

Primary Purpose: The Chef will provide culinary leadership including menu planning, program execution, and staff management & training. Works directly with the Blue Jays nutrition staff to deliver the nutrition mission to the players and staff.

Responsibilities and Duties:

- Provide consistent, high quality food standards and customer service
- Direct the food preparation for all Blue Jays home games during spring training, regular season, and post-season
- Collaborate with the nutrition team to develop menus and recipes to allow for consistent meal preparation
- Supervises and participates in the preparation and cooking of meals that align with Blue Jays standards
- Organize, coordinate, and prepare food for up to ~50 people daily
- Prepare and serve 3-4 meals a day in addition to oversight of all-access snack and recovery stations at stadium during season & camps, according to MLB guidelines
- Writes weekly schedules according to home stand and projected goals for meeting nutrition guidelines
- Order & receive food supplies
- Track & manage account budgets
- Serve a well-rounded selection of menus that feature Latin cuisine on a regular basis

- Be responsible for the ordering and receipt of all purchased products
- Oversee food safety & handling procedures aligning with ServSafe in the kitchen & dining
- Maintain the highest level of food safety standards
- Oversee record keeping system for temperatures
- Oversee cleanliness of work stations, storage area and kitchen

- Be an advocate of key nutrition messages, serving as an extension to execute nutrition principles of the organization
- Support nutrition interventions for medical need players
- Ensure proper ingredient allergen labeling
- Keep up to date with current food trends, new products and emerging cuisines
- Develop and maintain a positive rapport with the players, coaches, and staff

Experiences & Job Requirements :


- Degree in Culinary Arts, Nutrition, Dietetics, Health Science, or related field

- Canadian food handler certification and allergen certification
- Working knowledge of kitchen equipment and good knife skills
- Strong creativity, desire to learn, and interest in building healthy meals with lots of flavor
- Able to develop, document, and follow recipes
- Full understanding and knowledge of culinary nutrition, and has the ability to adjust recipes and menus to fit an athlete's nutritional needs

Experience and Requirements

- 3 years as a chef in a management role with food preparation, food safety, and customer service experience
- Experience ordering and receiving food from local vendors
- Initiate and embrace collaboration with other chefs and dietitians
- Demonstrates eagerness to serve the best product daily
- Open-minded and willing to embrace feedback to meet MLB player needs
- Display empathy, respect and compassion in all aspects of job
- Able to work non-standard work week, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays
- Leadership and mentoring
- Professional appearance and demeanor


- Ability to attack a problem with a solutions-first approach
- Understand how to incorporate dishes to support nutritional needs and preferences for athletic populations and cultural diversities
- Ability to collaborate with local restaurants & coordinate catering
- Able to work under pressure and distractions
- Confidence in working with clients who have food sensitivities and allergies
- Ability to prepare creative, simple, healthy, performance oriented menu items on a daily basis
- Exceptional organizational, written and verbal communication
- Ability to work organized alone or within a team environment
- Preferred: Fluent in Spanish
- Preferred: A minimum of 1 year of sports-based culinary nutrition experience with collegiate and/or professional athletes
