Job Summary 

The Vice President, Energy and Construction is accountable for the growth, compliance and profitability of the Energy and Construction portfolios across Canada.  This role is responsible for creating and executing on the strategy for this portfolio in order to identify and new products and opportunities for customers in this space.
This role is accountable for providing expert direction and guidance to field underwriters, developing, administering and monitoring complex underwriting rules and guidelines, leading product development as and when required and as well, formulating and executing on the business strategy.  This role will report to the President and Chief Agent, Zurich Canada.
Job Qualifications:
Years of Experience: 9 Or More Years Of Related Experience
Education Requirement: Bachelors’ Degree Or Equivalent
Additional Qualifications:

Experienced energy and construction Insurance Professional
Strong knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, national/local filing   regulations and guidelines
Ability to effectively assess risk
Previous management experience
Proven track record of leading in a diverse matrix environment (including shared services) and providing thought leadership to enterprise initiatives
Ability to think strategically and manage the operational execution of the short/long term strategic plan
Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively influence across disciplines as well as present issues, options and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences
Ability to travel

Job Accountabilities:
This role is accountable to:

Provide support, guidance and consultation to field underwriters in a broad range of areas.
Administers and monitors underwriting rules and guidelines. Analyzes quality and quantity of risks underwritten by team and prepares reports accordingly. May review agency or broker books of business as well as profit/growth results and trends to recommend and implement action plans. Identifies the need for additional underwriting guidance, and works to develop new guidelines or changes to existing guidelines.
Position may be responsible for certain aspects of product development and enhancement, including building the product offering, filing, establishing underwriting guidelines, building training materials and giving the training sessions. Actively solicit and consistently present new business opportunities to the Company and meet/exceed new business goals as set from time to time.
Recommend and implement action plans after reviewing books of business and profit/growth results and trends.
Develop and maintain relationships with brokers in support of business retention and acquisition and works with customers and brokers to determine their insurance-related needs and provides solutions. 
Identify opportunities and risks associated with changes in direction of external environment, looking forward 5+ years.
Monitor key ratios, premium growth, and developing plans to improve upon those metrics.
Ensure that appropriate documentation, implementation and communication of established policy, procedures and operating standards is completed for area of responsibility.
Monitors and evaluates activities to identify potential risks and issues of non-compliance. Participates or may lead risk assessment for their area of responsibility and escalates potential issues to higher management.
Optimize allocation of resources and launch common products, projects, investments across the business unit
