Thank you @Netta Virtanen for sharing this, and to @Juan Imaz for writing this article. Lots of research went into this post!

I've owned a 2009 and currently drive a 2010 Prius. It has nearly 150,000 miles on it, and still runs like new. The first thing you notice is how quiet hybrid-electric cars are. Many times, I will hear some strange new noise coming from someplace, and then notice it is the car next to me!

The second thing you notice is the acceleration capability when in "Power Mode." This should be the default setting.

One thing, and this is a personal opinion, is the decreasing sales of the Toyota Prius. Researchers are attributing some of this to the other vehicles out there, but so far no one has mentioned the aesthetics of the car: It is quite ugly. The "fangs" at the rear are just too - um - radical for me.

I may switch to the Chevrolet Volt. But the current version looks like a Honda Civic. What's a "green car fan" to do?

    On a more positive note:
Don't forget the amazing hybrid technology going into the LMP1 (Le Mans Prototype) race cars from Toyota and Porsche and others. Racing always pushes the technology and will eventually find their way into every day (hybrid) cars.

Thank you @Juan Imaz for sharing your insightful post. Disruptive innovations do not try to bring better products to existing customers in established markets. They should offer a new definition of what’s good, simpler, more convenient, and less expensive products that appeal to new or less demanding customers, but definitely not yet for Hybrid cars (fuel/electricity), even if I drove very sporty ones too. Hydrogen solutions could be more relevant for the next decade, in term of Global Eco Efficiency.

I race BMws and have owned M3's and even the rare 1 Series M Coupe. About 3 years ago I got to test drive an i3 hybrid in Las Vegas during the CES show. The smoothness and acceleration were shockingly good. I'm became a believer and notice I just spoke about driving dynamics - It's a great car and the fact that it was a hybrid was a just a big bonus.
