Great info @Lucy Norton. We don't need a total remodel but I'd love to add an island. We have Corian Countertops and they were not built right before we bought our home. Sadly, the company that put them in went into bankruptcy after we bought the home. It's expensive to fix too. My kitchen is 27x17, so an entire remodel would be expensive. We also have ceramic tile and for whatever reasons, the previous owners chose white counters and off white floor tile. It's a major pain to keep clean. One day, I'd love new flooring and counters if it didn't cost an arm and a leg. In the meantime I sweat over my fridge. They also put in a SubZero fridge - the upside, few part and they do last a very long time. Downside? They put in a smaller one with dimensions that are hard to find with fridges that aren't Subzeros and that's because they built a wood cabinet around it and we'd have to tear out part of our wall or counters/cabinets to put one in that fit. I love the new kitchen in this photo above!

#14 Hi @Pamela 🐝 Williams - I have done dozens of smaller homes - less than 250m2 and often under 100m2. Clever use of storage, space and flow is very important. Well designed small houses punch well above their weight when compared to a lot of the larger mansions I have seen and designed.

Claire, this is a terrific overview of some of your work. Absolutely fascinating, and much of the aesthetics genuinely blows me away. The Cedar Creek house makes me think of some of Frank Lloyd Wright's residential work. BTW, also impressed with the level of construction detail you develop, even at the proposal stage. For much depends on budget to build, and too often a proper estimate of that cannot be made without such detail -- although often people try to do it. Sharing this to my network. Cheers!

Finally, some architectural drawings! :-) Great collection, Claire, and very detailed! I would like to be able to see more details on these drawing but that would require larger images. The design of the House Rosenberg – Maropeng is quite interesting. To me, a thatch house has a special charm.
I’ll take some time to look at all these projects and links in detail.
Your last construction details reminded me of my technical and reinforcement drawings for a large septic tank some years ago.
Wish you the best of luck in all your projects. 🤞

Southern Pine Company of Georgia believes in preservation of our history through the salvage of antique old-growth woods. For twenty-five years, we have been reclaiming, preserving, restoring and supplying vintage old growth wood for renovation and new construction.

A division of RK Construction & Development, Southern Pine Company grew from the dreams of its president, Ramsey Khalidi, of preserving the irreplaceable treasures of Savannah, Georgia’s historic districts. A born preservationist, Ramsey was appalled at the destruction of historic properties going on in Savannah in the 1980’s. He was soon involved in rescuing buildings scheduled for demolition, moving many of them to new locations, restoring many in place, and salvaging the valuable materials from those that could not be safely moved or restored.

These age-old salvaged materials formed the basis of Southern Pine Company. As stockpiles of flooring, beams, windows, doors, and trim began to outgrow the availability of warehouse space, Southern Pine Company was conceived as a business dedicated to harvesting, restoring, and reselling these historic treasures of the "Urban Forest." Ramsey is a very good friend that goes out of his way to help people in any way. We are fortunate to have him here in Savannah, Georgia. RAMSEY ROCKS & BILL STANKIEWICZ ROLLS :) Best regards to all BEES, have a great afternoon.

Much of Thoreau is about living in a self reliant fashion - he fully railed against the modes of proper society. He was convinced that a life lived - was best done and achieved through honest and direct labor of your own hands - without the interference of technology, society and government.

"If I knew for a certainty that a man was coming to my house with the conscious design of doing me good, I should run for my life."

Few of us are ready for that kind of escapism.
