A Look At My Personal Collection - VIII. Not all art is gratifying on a purely aesthetic basis. Some art is utilitarian as well and straddles the line between art and craft. This is a stunning piece, Phil. I love the warmth of the wood and that the piece closes. It transforms from a useful piece to a piece of art.

#16 Thank you, Preston, for the kind words. Years ago, I moved around a lot and found packing and unpacking for a move a real pain. So I designed a line of furniture that broke down and stacked into cubes for moving. Built a sofa and a easy chair, which looked good, were comfortable, and worked as envisioned. But life changes took me away from that project, and I never seemed to get back to it -- even when I owned and operated a small shop for custom marine cabinetry and furniture. Maybe someday, I will. Cheers!

That is a fantastic piece. I just need to move some things around. I love how it closes up and becomes a piece of art for the room.

Beautiful, @Phil Friedman. I do admire simple, sort of plain, and definitely functional furniture. Like the Shaker style, made popular (?) by Norm Abram of the New Yankee Workshop:

Many years ago I designed several architecture pieces based in simple containers. It was a contest for a touristic place in Spain and all of them were refurbished with diferent sea paintings. Nowadays there are plenty of them around the world. I like this kind of architecture because is easy and faster to build.
