Jim Jarmusch's collection of short vignettes of odd and unique conversations between people ranging from the bizarre to the celebrity and shot over several years is utterly fantastic. It is hilarious, with great conversations between the White Stripes, Alfred Molina and Steve Coogan, Steven Wright and Roberto Benigni, Iggy Pop and Tom Waits, The direction of the film is simple, but Jim Jarmusch manages to create a rhythm that serves the movie big time in the way he structures his shots. Also the order in which the vignettes are presented adds to the rhythm of the movie. The acting is brilliant with most of the actors being quite remarkable. Jarmusch knows his weak ones and he knows where to put them, he places his strong ones in strategic places. The movie starts funny and ends simply poetic..

In 1860 Japan had just begun its staggeringly swift transition from backward feudal isolation to the world power that was able to defeat Russia with a modern navy in 1905. Many of samurai, the professional warriors attached to feudal lords, found themselves unemployed and homeless. Such a samurai is the hero of 'Yojimbo' by Akira Kurosawa, one of the world's master directors.

Kurosawa's The Seven Samurai and The Hidden Fortress, 'Yojimbo' can be compared with a good western. It is a well -built story: A small town is torn by bloody feud between two gamblers, each of whom has a gang of killers financed by a merchant. Quite by a chance, a samurai arrives in this town, with nothing to his name but his sword and his skill with it; and he decides to capitalize on the feud by hiring out to one or the other gambler as a YOJIMBO (bodygard) He is entirely disintersted-he slices up a few thugs merely to prove his prowess and send up his price. At the beginning he seems only the most efficient killer of the lot. As the film progress and the gambling factions plot and counterplot, the samurai seems more and more admirable: a man of courage and judgement who has absolutely no mercy for those with defective honor.
