#61 Jared, I have thought about this subject myself since reading this post. I have worked with Finance departments in many companies. Most of the time it was budget related but after developing a metrics program for one department I started receiving requests from the Finance area to help them use the application I was building to help them track the financial side of the department (transportation, supply chain). It is a complex system I have to admit. There were so many intricate pieces to the puzzle that had to be considered. As a former Accountant at a military food service operation I can attest to how easily things can go awry if you don't watch the details. It is a difficult business and one I have not wanted to re-enter.

#35 @Anders Liu-Lindberg I have the same issue with the Environmental Industry and it's not just beBee but all social media. When I try to get them to engage they just don't seem to want to blog about environmental issues. I understand that, especially if they are writing for an Environmental company or a Non-profit. Many do not take well to their staff blogging about the job.

#54 Sharing helps to gain interaction for sure! I try to share as many articles that I feel others may find relevant even if it's not something that pertains to me. I don't share random stuff, it has to be worthy of reading. For eg, I'm not a techie but if I read a good Tech article I will share it.

Engaging is how others get to know you obviously. That's how I've met so many new people on beBee, by engaging on their buzzes.

I find so many people on here who love promoting others, myself included. I want to see beBee kick butt ;-)
    Jared Wiese
    19/10/2016 #54 Jared Wiese
#53 Thank you for the thoughtful comments, @Lisa Gallagher! I appreciate you taking the time.

I know there are naysayers out there. That's fine. If it doesn't work for them, they can give up and go elsewhere or try something different. Like posting at different times, as you said.

One of the other points you mention that I didn't discuss was sharing. I believe each time someone else shares, your content shows up for that new audience in addition to all of your current hives and followers. That could really help a post take off.

And, certainly, it takes effort to engage - not just by posting something and sitting back. As you said, you have to show interest and interact. That gains followers, they see more of your content, then like, then comment, then share.... that's the theory anyway ;)
    Lisa Gallagher
    19/10/2016 #53 Lisa Gallagher
#38 @Jared Wiese, I think you made many valid points below. I'm not an expert by any means but from what I've seen of others and even some of my own posts, my viewer rate is much higher and you must at least click on an article to read it. Most of my articles have gotten many more comments and/or likes than on Linkedin. I have a few that didn't do so well but again, they may have been topics that didn't interest many, I could have posted to the wrong hives and I just learned not long ago you can repost your own article to your followers as often as you'd like. Another thing, I've learned it really depends on what time of day someone posts. There was a poster that was put up some time ago that gave you the best times of day to post to beBee, LI, FB etc... I tend to post after midnight which is far from the best time. John's buzz today is a prime example of how many comments a person can receive in less than 24 hours. I also think it depends how often a person comments on others posts, you have to show your interested and get to know others by interacting on their buzzes and last: How many followers. People that are moving here from Linkedin need to remember how long it took them to build their user base (connections) on LI. It took me almost 2 yrs to build almost 800 connections on LI, I'm up over 600 on beBee in just 7 mos. So, beBee wins in my eyes, hands down.

#48 Anders, I realize you are being sardonic but for the record I did not say that it would "take off". Indeed, I have not made any representation one way or the other, nor taken a position (yet) on engagement on beBee vs LinkedIn.

I have been working on a rather long and detailed post on the subject for Samantha Bailey's "LI Group Owners, Managers and Moderators (OMMs) [LIGOMM]" group on LinkedIn. As you know Samantha Bailey is highly respected onLinkedInasatop ratedata analyst. And her group is comprised of some serious veterans of the social media wars in general, and of the Groups war on LinkedIn. So the eventual exchange should be interesting.

Some data collection is involved, some logical and philosophical analysis. Plus the building of a basic bibliography of relevant posts by others on the topic, and opinions from some established analytic experts. As you might expect, it is taking longer to produce than one of my standard slash and burn pieces.

Anyway, we just recently founded "All Business" whose membership has not exactly grown through the roof at this point.Which I suppose might tell you something in and by itself. And I just wanted to warn you not to expect magic. Cheers!

#35 Actually, Anders, the title "All Business" means the hive is all business and accepts only native posts about business from real world business people, posted by the original author who is expected to be available to engage with readers about the post. #12 @Pamela L. Williams, I must say I was not aware Koreans were to learn French.
In many Latin countries such as Portugal, Brazil and Latam, and to a certain extend in Spain and Italy, it was a habit to learn French as first foreign language. Especially in the higher levels of society. It would be seen as elegant. You notice this with elder generations: many, many people speak French pretty well.
My daughter was born in Brazil. And whenever they would ask her name, they wouldn't be able to pronounce Elodie. They would immediately ask about the origin of the name and would say how ´chic' it is when they would learn it is French.

What an interesting post Stephane! I don't know what I was expecting when I saw it promoted at the bottom of another post but I'm glad I decided to check it out. Years ago I worked with a Korean (South) woman who was extremely fluent in French, which surprised me. What surprised me more was the fact that it was required in Korean schools. Apparently French is (or was, not sure) is second only to the Korean language itself. All students had to learn French. I wish the U.S. was that diligent about foreign languages. Most importantly that they taught what I call the "street" language. We learn 'proper' French or 'proper' Spanish, which translates as a friend found out; to being just about useless when traveling to the actual countries. Just ask someone from the UK about American "English" . Two totally different animals you might say.
