This reminds me of a articled with a similar theme. I think is was titled, "Add the Ingredient of Fun". It game examples of almost each of these you listed. Of of my favorite was . It had a video of an escalator next to a stairwell in a subway exit. The camera showed that 90% of the people using this exit used the escalator. A group turned the stairway way into a musical piano staircase. When people realized that their steps created music, the ratio to stairway to escalator users was reversed.
