Roberta Joan "Joni" Mitchell, CC (néeAnderson; born November 7, 1943) is a Canadian singer-songwriter and painter. Rolling Stone called her "one of the greatest songwriters ever"and AllMusic has stated, "When the dust settles, Joni Mitchell may stand as the most important and influential female recording artist of the late 20th century".[3] Drawing from folk, pop, rock and jazz, Mitchell's songs often reflect social and environmental ideals as well as her feelings about romance, confusion, disillusionment and joy.

The Album "Blue" released in 1971 is a masterful expression of deeply melancholic soulful introspection."River" is my favorite number from Jon's finest hour.

"I wish I had a river I could skate away on.."

#3 I did a search and realized this is not a heavy metal band from Mansfield, England called Savage, but Robert Zanetti whose stage name is Savage - so that was interesting ! Thankfully you mentioned Robert Zanetti which cleared up my initial confusion, because this is definitely not a 80's heavy metal band :-)

San Francisco's Winter Ballroom late Nov '76.The farewell concert for The Band.Memorialized in Martin Scorsese's documentary movie "The Last Waltz " featured a stellar line up including Neil Young, Dr John, Joni Mitchell, Neil Diamond, Van Morrison amongst others.Oh and not forgetting a certain Mr Bob Dylan who did this number!!

Check out the full movie..together with Woodstock still the best documentary of a live music concert imo.

#4 They made their mark and loss through cancer or suicide is not how any of us want to depart from this world. Even David Bowie was felled by cancer, though in writing Lazarus, he showed the level of his artistry, that he would incorporate his own death into his final work.

    Bitter-sweet Chris.

Bitter because it is exactly this boomer led meme that led to the culture of youth we have today and the ageism that accompanies it. Forever Young is a part of that boomer fixation on youth, which is prevalent in the market today. Very few people follow this mindset back to where it was born and now is not generally known.

Sweet because this is essentially a band formed in our neighboring town who went on to have an extraordinary career and even if they were in the right place at the right time when Bob Dylan was looking for a backup band, they made their own mark as well. including Robbie Robertson's success. Ultimately how many bands had the nous to simply name themselves as The Band. That is a cool thing on its own.

Eric Clapton's "My Father's Eyes" is a track off his 1998 album "Pilgrim"

The song is inspired by the fact that Clapton never met his father, who died in 1985. Describing how Clapton wishes he knew his father, "My Father's Eyes" also refers to Clapton's son Conor, who died at age four after falling from an apartment window ( This tragedy was in itself memorialized in the Clapton number "Tears in Heaven).

"In "My Father's Eyes" I tried to describe the parallel between looking in the eyes of my son, and the eyes of the father that I never met, through the chain of our blood", said Clapton in his autobiograph.

Hauntingly beautiful ..Los, redemption and ultimately transcendence.

The great thing about not knowing about a particular track is to meet it like it is new. The weird thing is that these songs are rarely played but should a top notch film maker put one of these scores to a hit movie or it is assigned to big brand commercial, it is then that this kind of music enters the consciousness, which is a sign that we witnessing our collective consumption in a consumer driven world. Good track !

Technically, not everybody wants to rule the world, but what I have always liked about this song is that I can move to it, and technically not everybody wants to dance either.

This is the kind of freedom of expression that we can do privately, which those that want to rule the world can't see, can't touch and will never know about - which makes it the best kind of freedom I know.

When the album was released, it steadily climbed the Billboard 200 chart, ultimately reaching No. 1, where it remained for six consecutive weeks. One of the great duets of all time, featuring an undisputed legend of music and a highly under-rated and under-appreciated singer in K.D.Lang - Lang's cover of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah remains special https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7oZN2eTgvVs

Orbison's voice will always remain a unique one and the saddest thing of all is that he did not finish his supergroup project with the Travelling Wilbury's here is an account of that loss, where the Wilbury's dedicated their third album to their lost friend. In this day and age of branding and big money, it is refreshing to see five giants of music collaborating with each for the sheer love of playing together and having fun and not about sell-out tours.

There seems to be more people at this Depeche Mode concert than was at the Trump inauguration - and way more happier and excited to be there, to boot.

I don't know why video's take 30 seconds to engage in some Mad Max anticlimax because once the music started, I thought Ocean Grove to be very interesting.

In a world that nu-metal type music has its detractors, the sound Ocean Grove have produced is powerful. The band members have an interesting back story a.k.a.

    https://genius.com/artists/Ocean-grove

I gave it a couple of spins and it I definitely grew into this sound and while the video is eye-candy, the music does speak for itself and it definitely has its own identity, and I like where this Aussie band is going.

Thanks for introducing this band to me.

Being that I grew up with the music of 10CC interesting to learn that band member Graham Gouldman also wrote songs for many 60 bands including The Hollies and this track "Bus Stop" - and to think he was a teenager when he put these lyrics together

#1 This is how I heard about the Graham Gouldman link, in a fabulous Talk Music interview with Graham Nash. Talks Music is hosted by Malcolm Gerrie but I cannot locate a video of the show on youtube. I was fascinated by many connections that Nash made that are an extraordinary history of musical collaborations.

Good track and lyrics. My ultimate Nillson track will always be Everybody's Talkin - that particular one will remain a part of my own life-story. Always good to bring Nilsson's music to the ears of those who do not know him. It is shocking how quickly artists we grew up with can be lost to the next generation in this age when so much about life is a media led competition for attention and that horrid word "eyeballs". Nilsson deserves his place on the pantheon of 20th Century music..

Baker Street will be his timeless classic. I was saddened by his passing and what is remarkable that it feels like it was like it was yesterday, but you remind me that it has been 3 years since the world lost this utterly genius and joyful man. Thanks for tagging Moonlight U& Gold, I absolutely love his unique voice and fully reiterate your own accolades.
