#4 Yesterday I came across a site that uses ... I don´t know how it´s called. Instead of pop up they put a forced "open new page" on a button like "read more". The new site opens IN FRONT of the tab you have open. Really, really annoying.

I agree with what you said. Laziness and lack of knowledge are probably an issue.

#3 Thank you, Aurorasa, for your comment.

I am convinced that it is laziness or more likely a lack of knowledge. Most of the advertising on websites are passed to a third party who sell these websites packages with a plethora of buzzwords and metrics that most know of, but don't really understand. I am also willing to bet that the owners of these sites check that the pop-ups are working and never go back. Like I said, it's not a good marketing technique to frustrate your customers.

It´s horrible. On marketers sites, you read about the "war between customers and advertisers", which is the best proof of how the mindset of what seems to be a whole industry is wrong.

You gotta do better than "fighting" your potential clients.... it´s not even that we hate advertisements or do not understand that people need to make a living.

People buy magazines like Vogue for the advertisements. We just hate bad and intrusive ads being forced on us.

About 20 % of people now use an adblocker on their mobiles too.

#3 Thank you for your feedback, Catalina! Agree, it's not only for luxury brands, it's for everyone, but companies with "premium" business models should think about small details and prove every time why their clients should pay a premium price for their products. They should't permit themselves to be outdated, they should create a "wow" effect and impress their target!

#1 Thank you for your comment, Dean! The idea of this article is that you shouldn't stop on what you have already developed and have, you should always move forward and come up with new things! To be a strong leader in your industry or to finally become one! Trends are changing, technology is changing and tech world is essential in everything we do now, so I strongly believe that technology is key in business nowadays. Billions of dollars are invested in marketing technology ( http://apiumtech.com/blog/key-digital-customer-journey-tips-statistics-2016/). I think we shouldn't ignore it.

I actually agree with Dean a little bit, I think that not luxury necessarily a brand will die if it doesn't innovates, but maybe some more changes can be made to make the client feel that the brand cares about them so as a result they are getting better for them.
    Navinya Lee
    24/05/2016 #2 Navinya Lee
What a great article @Ekaterina Novoseltseva! I think more and more brands are realising that they need to include audiences in their processes. For interaction, uniqueness, whatever it is, they have had to adjust their business model.
    Dean Owen
    24/05/2016 #1 Dean Owen
This is an excellent article @Ekaterina Novoseltseva, but I don't agree totally with your Luxury Brands must innovate or die in the digital age. If your product is simply the best, you can succeed purely on word of mouth. Take luxury independent watchmakers Kari Voulilainen, Philippe Dufour, Vianney Halter for example. They have no marketing department. Dufour even does not have a website. But they have waiting lists for their $50,000+ watches years long. If you make the best in the world, there will be plenty of media people wanting to write about you. Not just limited to watches, but cars (Ariel Atom), Department Stores (Fortnum & Mason's), even cheese! Agree when talking about the big conglomerates like LVMH. But they need to sell inventory and pay for prime real estate, so in order to reach a broader audience and always be in the hearts and minds, they need an explosive marketing campaign.

I agree with Arnie's statement about #1. I'm in software and many new markets are pure guesswork. Plenty of consulting companies make big bucks selling their "market size predictions," but it's really just them pulling numbers out of the air.

#4 ... I've got some additional presentations/articles to expand upon this area ... it comes down to two things (1) you may have the best idea/company/product in the world, but if there isn't a market to sustain it - what's the point and (2) in the beginning, the idea is more important than anything else. Don't be scared to pursue something, just because there is competition - even a very large competitor. Amazon would never have launched (either their shopping site or their AWS services) if they focused too much on established competition. It's important to understand, but it's not the most critical aspect of product marketing.

#1 ... but along those lines, there is a great book called "Blue Ocean Strategy" which talks about evaluating products (or companies) and moving from Red Oceans (highly competitive markets) to Blue Oceans (low competitive markets). There is also a very well defined strategy of being a "Fast Follower" - never first to market, but usually enter once the market is defined - with improvements not found in the market leader (Google is a great example of being a fast follower). Thanks @Richard for the comment.

#1 competitive information is important, but personally, I believe we spend too much time worrying about it (especially early on in the cycle of product ideas and development).
