Nothing But Blues

4K buzzes
Deriving from American culture, the blues is one of the most simple forms of music, in terms of structure, but one of the most difficult to excel at, because artists can't rely on fancy tricks to play the blues. It's played with the heart.

Whether you are already a blues music afficienado, or just wanting to learn more, whether you speak English, or another language, we'll help you learn a bit more about blues music. Feel free to upload blues related content too, and share.

A dark room, at a table with friends, a glass of Wild Turkey on the rocks.............................Game on. Awesome video.

My brothers play and sing, or used to. Ones gone the others have moved on, but we used to have some sessions. I was a spectator, the musical talent tree didn't fall on me.

We were at a rental house at the beach, cuttin up some ole salty dog. Mom had come down and told us we were going to wake up grandma.

Sure enough we did. She showed up with her "mouth harp" (harmonica) at 1 am, a glass of wild turkey and the 79 year old grandma stood in.

    Thanks for the memories.

From my favorite all time musical artist, Van Morrison singing a song that happens to fit the last few days on BeBee, and expresses an underlying philosophy that I often try to follow. And to add, it's a philosophy that van actually lives in his own grumpy way.

The blues and gospels bring back so many memories. I grew up in South Africa in the apartheid era which is a whole story but that is for a another time. My father died when I was nine years and mum had to work and provide for 5 children still at school. Not looking for sympathy but my sister, just a wee bit older than me, and I felt extremely neglected emotionally. The two older sisters and the youngest my brother got all the attention. But there was an angel in my life, Fransie. Fransie was the lady who worked for us while daddy was still alive and Fransie stayed with us during hard times. Not sure she got paid all the time but she was there. In apartheid South Africa that is quite something. There was no money for anything and the only present I got on my brithday was from Fransie - a tin of toffees. Fransie would sing to us and the couple of weeks before Xmas she would perform on the street corner from our house - she had an amplifier thingy too! Her voice now reminds me of the gospel singers and my favourite song was 'Just a closer walk with thee'! When my mum was not around Fransie smuggled me out of the house to the area where she lived to go to those gospel meetings where the evangelist scream and shout. Did not understand most of that but remember the most wonderful feeling when all the people stamped their feet and clapped whilst singing gospels....just my two pence worth! (the blues and gospel are relatives)

#1 It really hasn't changed that much. Soho had jazz bars back in the 60's. One jazz bar features heavily in Chapter 1 of my book. The real change occurred in the 70's when the Hong Kongers came to London and opened up Chinese restaurants in Soho. They are still there. My mother opened the first Japanese restaurant in Europe (in St. Christopher's Place), and her second was in Soho. There may be fewer sex shops now, but it looks the same as it did 30 yrs ago. In my mind, London is one of the least transformed cities in the World (and that is a good thing).

#2 It does sound like gentrification but I have not been in London for some years, so I do need to check out Soho and see for myself the changes. I do know that San Fransisco is losing its colour due to massive gentrification and there this is the effects of startup capital and technology companies moving in and bulldozing the existing culture, and displacing communities that have lived there for several generations. In the end if Soho totally gentrifies we can amalgamate Mayfair, Soho, Belgravia and Westminster and rename it Snobbyville.

#1 Property owners are moving the seedy bits out...but methinks something will be lost - it will be just another gentrified part of London with copious coffee bars! The soul will be gone.
    CityVP 🐝 Manjit

Soho is an example of an amazing transformation. 40 years ago it was the seedy red light district of London and today it is the complete antithesis of that - a trendy and sophisticated area. Since I have not lived in England for the last 25 years, I have no idea of what it is like now, but it had begun to change quite dramatically even by the time I had emigrated in 1992. By then it became less and less like the place it was in the prior decades.
