@Preston 🐝 Vander Ven this is quite good. Planning is very much like problem solving. I have found that while planning my weekly schedule or the way forward on a project, I'm actually preventing the 'problem' of wasting time and disorder. Planning is a habit I learnt the hard way - flailing to plan and mulling through, sometimes hoping I would get things right - because I know the desired outcome. When I was much younger I was quite spontaneous and cocky and foolish. Thankfully, I buckled down and learnt the importance of preparation for an exceptional wining outcome! Great post. Pls tag me with the follow up!

Procastrination is a luxury many cannot afford.
Thos who do, must use their time wisely and there are many things a person can learn for free.

#9 @Jennifer 🐝 Schultz I didn't criticize the order, It was just a mere observation from my own experience. I agree that some changes can be made but if the employer disagree (which happens in most cases) what else can one do?

#11 well, people can always find something to criticize about an article. Your aim was clearly not to talk about mental illnesses, which opens up a whole different discussion.
    Jennifer 🐝 Schultz
    18/04/2017 #11 Jennifer 🐝 Schultz
@Virag Gulyas The negative feedback that I received was that sometimes mental illness like depression or anxiety, holds someone back - which I completely understand, but didn't feel like I was speaking to that group of people. I wanted to make sure it was clear. I was told that I was being irresponsible by saying that people make excuses. #10

Yes Stefan - those questions might be better in a different order. But, I have seen people say I don't want to leave my current job. Then go on to say they can't improve what they don't like about their current job - meaning that there are changes they could potentially make like: shorter hours, more time off, etc. in order to make them stay at their job. #8
    Stefan Musat
    18/04/2017 #8 Stefan Musat
In my opinion, if this question (Can I improve what I don't like about my current job?) appears, the answer for `Do I really want to leave my current company?` is yes.

The ultimate professional goal should be not needing a job after all who wants one of those things, how do people become those things called jobs when there is so much more to life that can occupy us - for this defines our "occupation". If we don't live as part of a tribe and our modus operandi is only add more material costs to our existence, then a job is needed to pay for the all the stuff that goes with a material existence. Share with the tribe and work does not become a must have, but a tribal contribution. Jobs are for slaves and people separated by society from their tribe, living as separated economic units.

Jobs are for economists, but for the tribe there is paid work, best work is to run your own business, with one of those you can hire those that need that thing called jobs (worker bees). So long as peace is the tribes objective, the two things that can kill the tribe can be kept at bay - the first is living a life where the job defines existence and the other is to fight other tribes.

If your tribe becomes a tribe of employees, it is no longer a job but a tribe some business owner is paying for - that is why people procrastinate on jobs because that is what they have become - just a job - and who can blame anyone trying to run away from a life like that. There is value in getting a job if we become a tribe of employees but that tribe is still exclusive. Every large organization has a tribe of employees that have learned to occupy economic space.

There is nothing good about procrastination but for all those who are able to procrastinate - it is a natural rebellion within - one we can choose to confront or just let be. I found the opposite of procrastination is physical intelligence - now if we don't have physical intelligence then what is the difference between becoming a job and procrastinate about becoming just a job. Who wants to be a Steve of a JOB if our actual dream was to be more like STEVE JOBS?

I know what you mean Brian, as you have shared your experience with me, and I could not agree more about ATS's. But, I am talking about job seekers that don't do anything at all to help themselves. They just talk about switching jobs and can come across as very sincere in their job search, but procrastinate and end up not doing anything. #1
    Brian McKenzie
    18/04/2017 #1 Brian McKenzie
Why I don't - and probably will never work for a US employer again. An ATS that requires you to magically guest their 12 to 42 keywords, An HR that is more interested in your Spirit Animal than anything else, that can't / won't return phone calls - emails - social media. And of course the wasted two hours of corporate research and resume wrangling to meet the ad 'key words' that are all for not.
Two hours of my life and the stress for an auto skript robo response (if one appears at all) is NOT worth my time. It ain't procrastination - it is an ROI vs ROE assessment that corporate America IS NOT WORTH my time & effort. Signed Happier Abroad - ExPat out of the game.

I am so sick of it. I have dressed it up, dumbed it down, made it an info-graphic, cat meme, 144 character tweet, I have mailed it attached to a brick, have paid to have it re-written twice annually since graduation and I have even added a Pokemon Go character to it. I have done serious, whimsicle, content story-based drivel and even a twerk karaoke fest. I finally outsourced myself overseas, where conversations matter more than a Blackhole ATS, 6 seconds of Resume Rodeo and Spirit Animal gameship trivia.

#11 LOL, I don't think that's a trait limited to Spanish politicians, Javier. I think it's more a symptom of politics in the first place. @Nicholas Fester wrote a piece advising against sticking to the middle of the road. Running down the middle of the road is what politics is.

They try to please everybody and end up pleasing no one.

Maybe if we sent our elected officials to run down the middle of a real road they would see just how dangerous and foolhardy that is.

My thoughts were confirmed when I found out about beBee earlier this year.

I have no fears for Madrid. They have what the World needs. Add an incredible climate to the tech landscape and all that's left is to improve the tax rate climate. Easier said than done, but the potential is extreme.

IMHO Emotionally intelligent is very different from "Emotional Intelligence", I cannot know for sure if everyone here is emotionally intelligent but I do know that people commenting here can utilize emotional intelligence. The difference is very important Purnima, because in the first instance it is a learning journey and in the second it is a control mechanism. I understand the precept of "Fake it till you make it" and good people can transform emotionally from engaging that, but I want to go deeper.

I have learned that nasty people are not black and white entities which we can immediately discern. A narcissist can be the nicest person in the world until one see's through the facade and we know that narcissistic leaders stand a better chance of succeeding up the corporate ladder than do those who wear honesty on their sleeve. There is a passage in the Bible in Matthew 6:3 which says "But when you do merciful deeds, don't let. your left hand know what your right hand does," - and this introduced me to the notion that there is such a thing as spiritual ego, which is a supreme from of egotistical behaviour.

When we are emotionally intelligent we understand that when looked at the level of technique and "emotional intelligence" is a conditioning, and it can be utilized for good, but it can also be utilized as a mapping of behaviours that are helpful for confidence tricksters http://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2014/01/the-dark-side-of-emotional-intelligence/282720/ This means that for every Purnima Menon who benefits, there may also be a Bernie Madoff who studies the human condition and cons people into trusting them. Madoff was not emotionally intelligent, he simply used the techniques of emotional intelligence to gain trust. http://www.forbes.com/2010/12/22/bernard-madoff-trust-psychology-leadership-managing-ponzi.html

There are no monetary incentives based on emotional intelligence. Until there are, you will have to take it upon yourself, just as you did. Your buzz should be taped to the mirror in the executive washroom.

They don't teach such things in business schools. It's not part of many organizations training procedures. That's why Micro Managers run so rampant and out of control in many institutions. Can't comprehend why organizations keep failing to control those micro managers. They are not an asset to any organization.
