    And as the threats morph, so too must our own defenses. Welcoming spaces can no longer be unguarded ones.

    The Ohio Statehouse and government buildings on Capitol Square have received much-needed upgrades: metal detectors, turnstiles and more. They were long overdue.

    But nonprofits -- schools, houses of worship, museums, and universities -- need similar protections and efforts.
