    Are sales manager's stupid?
Are sales manager's stupid?I like being negative. I know there’s all kinds of articles online about being positive but I don’t care. As I write this, I’m looking at an email that one of the managers sent to his sales people about being “available.” If you aren’t familiar...

#3 Wow, this is an awesome observation: "basically telling the employee that promotions are not fair"

Often it's not about motivating, often it's about persistent demotivation.

If boss isn't around for long and only shows up to criticise, or motivate without knowing the facts, it is basically telling the employee that promotions are not fair. Makes one distracted, sales isn't good or sales isn't enough.. both scenarios same output.

Bosses have to have the combination, absence of body but presence of mind , knowing everything , being the dependable problem solver when the employee is in a fix . After that even if the employee gets burned he would know he deserved it.

The biggest problem with sales management in my experience is that often the best salesperson gets promoted into management. Most great salespeople have good social skills, but the skill set required to lead a team of people and empower them is still different from the ones needed to hit your quota.

I like your article. Lots of truth in it.

Btw ... being critical does not equal negativity in my mind.
