Social Selling has become a bit of a buzz word (pardon the pun). It's also referred to as digital selling or digital sales and marketing.

However what social selling really is, is building relationships with the right people. Those people could be leads, prospects, clients, referral or strategic alliance partners.

The focus of this group will be to share social selling best practices across all platforms (beBee, LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter etc) and among most effective practices such as lead generation, outreach, content marketing, visual marketing, videos, live steaming, prospecting and more.

It was introduced by LinkedIn as a vehicle to build its membership, but was never really backed up with a genuine commitment to the principles of publishing. And candidly, although I believed at one point there was an opportunity for beBee to actually bring it to fruition, I am growing ever more doubtful that social media can ever move beyond non-sentient click-click networking which may, as you believe, lead to self-organization, but which I believe leads to entropic intellectual stasis.     #1 Jim and Milos, people tend to forget that the LinkedIn "long form post" publisher dates back only to early 2014. Before that, all posts on LI were in the form of updates in the general feed and discussions in groups. The publishing platform was attractive because it offered long-form bloggers an opportunity to reach more readers than from an individual website.

    Later, when LinkedIn failed to perform on its promises to writers to support their networking efforts (and indeed chose to actively undermine those efforts), some of us turned to beBee, which promised openly and in print to always distribute 100% of a writer's posts to 100% of that writer's followers 100% of the time.

    I do agree with both of you, however, that short forms of expression are often just as or more effective in generating engagement and exchange. And I have myself taken to using these more in recent months, especially on LinkedIn, where the update feed appears not to choke down distribution in the same way as the Pulse publisher feed.

    Nevertheless, I continue to believe it possible to blend both approaches on a single platform such as beBee, if only serious attention would be paid to developing hives (groups) that enable those interested to run SOME hives as digital special-interest magazines, with control of content and active stimulation of discussion by owners and administrators. I guess it comes down to whether you consider a social media platform to ever have the potential for being home to serious writing efforts or whether you see them as venues for the digital game of clicking, liking, and connecting to no end other than itself. Cheers!

    Nice one @Jim Murray! I almost completely quit my writing of long-form articles in social media. And for the good reasons. Supersaturation on all levels. I beleive that short forms and exchanges of brief content are more closer to the essenece of social media. What is really impressive never shines only flashes occasionally.
