The Distance Virus: Don't Let That Virus Spread in Your Relationship

The Distance Virus: Don't Let That Virus Spread in Your Relationship

I was working with a couple to repair their marriage and along that road they both became aware of something they’d never given thought to. It was the ability to confront or grant beingness to their partner when their partner did, said, or acted...

Adore Small Steps

Adore Small Steps

I want to share a personal story first. Uponcompleting my PhD, I attended a university as a lecturer. The university hadgreat entertainment center, which included great swimming pools. That time Icouldn’t swim. My peers invited me on one weekend...

It is amazing how we learn from swimming and share same experience Jean L. Serio CPC, CeMA. I didn't live by even a river and so you were fortunate to have the inviting ocean nearby. Yes, small steps are small today, but they become important tomorrow. It is like saving a dollar per day in a bank and watching the saving reach an unexpected wealth. The real wealth for me is to to connect with people of your caliber my friend from whom I may learn a little, but will compound to spiritual wealth later on.

I'm grateful to say in my formative years we lived near the beach - strictly speaking it was the Atlantic Ocean. My mother would take us there on weekends. She would sit in the edge of the water, take us one by one (there were 3) and encourage us to splash and paddle while she held us until we eventually were capable and secure paddling off on our own. Doing this, it didn't take long for each of us to learn to swim. Not only am I grateful my mother did this, it allowed each of us to learn at our own speed, feel comfortable floating farther and farther away from her secure arms until able to independently swim. In later years we occasionally discussed this at family gatherings. And I discovered my siblings felt the same way. While we each may have interpreted it slightly differently, we all agreed it taught us that taking small steps, as your wonderful article points out, can help us more confidently move forward later in life. Not to mention - each small step helps build the foundation of our lives, relationships or business. Thank you for another thoughtful article Ali Anani.
