The Stones came to Pittsburgh June 17, 1964, their first time in the US. "A British band trying to sing the blues, what the hell is going on"?! Tickets were $1.50, they had to pull people off the street in order to fill the venue. Next stop Cleveland with an estimated crowd of 6K then on to New York 10K the rest is history.

Got to see them in 1974...with The Eagles, Montrose and Trapeze as the back up bands. Billy Preston showed up and played piano for the Stones. 100 degrees on the floor of the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas.

#51 @Nick Mlatchkov That's probably true; to be subject to abuse/intimidation/conspiracy by the very institutions designed to protect citizens (from violations of the rule of law) ... is something that I have experienced personally; it forever changes a person...I will never cease to "speak truth to power"...I realize how precious and fragile the rule of law is...placing people in positions of political/policy power who don't understand it...or who are willing to abuse that power is something we should all keep our eye on. We all should cultivate a "skeptical (maybe not cynical) eye" for such things.

#47 @John Byler yeah, You were totally out of control the few times that you came to visit (which always seemed to be during business meetings); has Keith ever asked you to compensate him for the stuff you broke...especially that vase? I thought he was going to shoot you for that one!

Willfully or not, that eventually influenced the decision of a now defunct country - USSR. They proclaimed the band 'an enemy

This is a great post, @Gerald Hecht. Thanks for the info. Keith is still underrated (how can that be!), especially considering he is one of the most widely copied guitarists of all time. So many brilliant riffs that Jagger and he then put lyrics to. Tumbling Dice comes to mind as an iconic open G gem . . .

#9 yes it was Ry Cooder who first showed open G --I think that Keith Eventually favored Open D for a while...it's funny; now it seems like he's mostly tuning it "straight " and really becoming a chord master better than ever; especially on acoustic

I d read somewhere that was Ry Cooder the one that told Keef about open tuning. He used a lot. Most of the Stones hits are in Open G, But also in open C like You cant always get what you want....

OK Gerry...that was incredible and something I never knew. People tend to underestimate Keith Richard's depth of knowledge because they think he's stoned all the time. But for someone who used to be stoned all the time, back in the day, I can attest to the fact that you find things out there that you normally would just gloss over. Great post. You should do well with the musicians in the hive.
