@Aurorasa Sima Whoa! (No hyperbole), I'm kind of freaking out...there are so many levels of weirdness (that may or may not be hiding) in plain sight here; I could potentially find one at a flea market around here! #8

#6 It´s fascinating. There was not internet .. no cell phones to start a flash mob. I wonder how this movement lasted for so long. Imagine how many pictures must exist if one person finds 100 by touring flea markets.

#6 It does not mention the age of the collector. When he found the first pictures of a woman in a tree he thought it was a coincidence. He toured flea markets and after 25 years he had collected 100 pictures of women in trees. The pictures are from 1920 - 1950.

@Aurorasa Sima The images begin to appear about the time of the young wannabe artist's spontaneous beer hall rants...and continue for about five years (I think...from my poor to fair translating "abilities") after the official end of the War...it's very strange; does this give you any clues? #5

It is indeed a mystery. These weren't snapshots of life... they were indeed posed. Some of them are just awkward. I'm not sure how they got there (given the clothing they were wearing). Thanks for tagging me @Aurorasa Sima View more

@Aurorasa Sima Interestingly, a sense of mystery still remains --thank you for sharing this. Somehow, in some surreal synchronicity, I hear the voice of Donald Fagen's "Nightfly": "... I'm Lester the nightfly, bellow Baton Rouge, won't you turn your radio down, you say there's a race of men in the trees...an independent station, WJAZ, with jazz and conversation, from the foot of Mt. Belzoni..."

Tale of TalesTale of Tales '15Jun 7, 2016This recent Italian film of Matteo Garrone's certainly gonna stay in the public attention for a long time. There's nothing like it in theaters nowadays. It's strictly in the artistic tradition of his country dating back...

A nice review @Nick Mlatchkov, I think allot of people are too hesitant to share their views on cultural topics like art, cinema and music in fear of being put down by their peers so I always find it inspiring to see people openly sharing reviews they have penned!. I watched this film some time earlier this year and alas, for me, it came up a little short. Visually it's stunning and I agree the score is rather breathtaking. Toby Jones is one of my favourite actors because even if you don't know Toby Jones, you know Toby Jones. Sadly, for me there was just something lacking in the way of narrative immersion and speed, maybe it is the way the film has been edited? Maybe the budget ran dry? Who knows. .But it didn't grip me the same way other contemporary fantasy has, for example - the works of Del Toro (The Devils Backbone, Pan's Labyrinth etc) or as you very rightfully pointed out the 70's/80's fantasy treasures such as Gilliam's Time Bandits or Jim Henson's Labirynth (Bowie as a goblin king? You can;t beat that!). Maybe I need to give it a second chance though. Thanks for sharing your review, I look forward to the next!

How Purnima lost her groove...Can you help her find it?I believe I have the makings of a Pollyanna.  And that's helped me when chips are down. But here is one situation that I am still trying to fix my groove. Maybe I will in a few months..We'll see :-)..I am extremely passionate about a certain art...

I have not doubt Purnima that you will find your groove, because nothing teaches us a lesson like a failure. They asked you back so they know it was a one time thing more than likely exasperated by the last minute 'inprov' warning. You were 'star struck' by the 'professionals, we are all there in some capacity. There was a sentence you used that I use whenever I mentor someone at work: "•Understand the big picture. No matter how small you think your part is." It's how I work at whatever I'm doing, whether it's a passion or a career. I need to know the WHY in addition to the HOW. Great read, I enjoyed it very much and loved the makeup!

Are you perhaps being too self critical of your original performance @Purnima Menon ? Surely the audience of Kathakali take equal delight in seeing the colourful make-up and costumes, and you certainly seem to have met expectations there, if your photos are anything to go by. If you were really as bad as you think you were first time round, then why would the organisers have asked you back? Practice always makes perfect, so onwards and upwards. As they say in stage business "break a leg!" Wouldn't life be so dull if we could master everything we try first time?
