Description

Groupon’s mission is to become the daily habit in local commerce and fulfill our purpose of building strong communities through thriving small businesses by connecting people to a vibrant, global marketplace for local services, experiences and goods. In the process, we’re positively impacting the lives of millions of customers and merchants globally. Even with thousands of employees spread across multiple continents, we still maintain a culture that inspires innovation, rewards risk-taking and celebrates success. If you want to take more ownership of your career, then you're ready to be part of Groupon.

As a part of our Payroll team, you will partner with the business to support the growth and change that we see every single day. We work in various Centres of Excellence across the globe and collaborate together to build from scratch and provide guidance to our partners around the organisation. As a young yet evolving company, we’ve grown a robust Payroll department with dedicated resources for each line of business; yet there are still plenty of ways to impact, change, or improve how our team works.

As Payroll Specialist for EMEA, you will manage the processing for Germany and Belgium. As a part of this role, you will coordinate operations with Human Resources, Treasury, Accounting, Commissions, Compensation, and our Benefits team, as well as leverage our external Payroll service provider and internal systems and tools. As the first point of contact for our employees and as part of the payroll team, you will have a significant impact on our ability to meet SLA’s and ensure employee satisfaction goals are achieved.

We're a "best of both worlds" kind of company. We're big enough to have resources and scale, but small enough that a single person has a surprising amount of autonomy and can make a meaningful impact. We're curious, fun, a little intense, and kind of obsessed with helping local businesses thrive. Does that sound like a compelling place to work?

You'll spend time on the following:

- Establish & maintain payroll records
- Collect data from multiple departments and ensure all payments and deductions are processed accurately
- Own and update process documentation and communicate any changes in process to the appropriate groups
- Submit pay period payments as 1st level of banking approvals
- Ensure all payments are duly authorized, correct and compliant with local law
- Assist HR local contacts with their queries
- Strive to deliver excellence in customer service to all stakeholders
- Maintain and create payroll accounting, journals, and support the finance team to analyse and explain monthly fluctuations of Payroll expenses
- Support the general Accounting team to reconcile monthly Payroll accruals as well as ensure SOX compliance
- Answer employee payroll queries, within expected time frame
- Maintaining GDPR compliance and payroll confidentiality at all times
- Liaise with external and internal auditors to answer inquiries
- Involved in all ad hoc projects, including process improvements within the international environment

We're excited about you if you have:

- 3-5+ years experience in international payroll environment
- Fluency in German required
- You’re confident with managing multiple payrolls end to end
- You have excellent communication skills and can thrive in both an individual and team environment
- You're adaptable and can think on your feet; you excel in an ever-changing environment
- You love problem-solving to help your customers have an excellent experience
- You'd consider yourself to be a budding authority in Microsoft Excel
- You have excellent organisational skills with evidence of being proactive with requests to meet tight deadlines
- You have excellent organizational and analytical skills with precise attention to detail
- CloudPay and Workday experience is preferable but not essential
- You have experience respecting confidentiality with payroll records/employee data
- Experience working with manual and outsourced payroll preferred
- Working hours - Work shift - Monday to Friday 9:00 to 18:00
