Job Title: Developer
You’ll be a developer on our cutting edge IVR applications at the forefront of the bank’s contact with its customers, and the extensive features they support. We have an ethos of building not just the applications but the supporting frameworks in-house. This includes the core IVR application framework and SDK, tools to support use of natural language speech processing in the IVRs, and integration test tools. You’ll primarily focus on hands on development, creating high quality solutions for customers and colleagues. You’ll also help drive continual improvement in our ways of working to help us deliver quicker and better.
Our tech stack includes core Java, Spring Framework, REST services, JSON, Oracle, MongoDB, OpenShift, Docker, JBoss, Gradle, Jenkins.
What will you be doing?
Work closely with Product Owners to understand business and customer problems and how our IVRs can help solve them
Help drive evolving designs
Develop solutions using TDD, A-TDD and CI principles, along with Agile techniques, and drive continually better feedback cycles
Help to plan work effectively and realistically, and to sensibly manage risks and issues
Help see releases through to live and track the success of changes
Continually improve your own skills and knowledge and our delivery effectiveness
Help others develop by sharing skills and knowledge
Ensure our solutions are extensible, maintainable, testable, scalable, manageable and performant
What we’re looking for:
You will be a strong coder. Core Java is our primary language, but we are primarily interested in great developers regardless of which languages they have previously used, and thus are interested in applicants with other language experience too
Your coding skills will include creating code that is a joy to maintain and enhance. You will have knowledge and some skill with the techniques of test driven / test-first development, continuous integration, ‘clean coding’ and refactoring, and will produce great documentation
You will be strongly customer focused and a good problem solver
You will value Continuous Improvement, and work to identify and understand issues affecting quality and deliveries, in order to make effective improvements
You will be a good communicator, able to talk to different audiences effectively and share your knowledge
Skills that will help you in the role:
You may have design skills
You may have experience of at least some of the following: Java (or other languages), REST services / APIs, JSON, XML, SQL databases, MongoDB & other NoSQL databases, IVRs, Spring Framework, Gradle, Jenkins, OpenShift or other cloud platforms, Contact Centre / telephony applications
Where will you be working?
*Barclays recently announced the creation of a new world-class campus at Gera Commerzone located in Kharadi. All Pune based roles will eventually start to move to this new campus starting September 2019. In the run up to that, during the course of 2018, there may be transitory movements of some roles to other temporary sites.
