The Red Hat Support Engineering team is looking for a Software Maintenance Engineer focusing on Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) to join us in Tokyo, Japan. In this role, you will help resolve issues for enterprise customers by providing high-level technical support and sustaining engineering services to maximize uptime and reduce IT costs. You'll work as part of a team dedicated to resolving issues quickly and efficiently and collaborate with our customers' top developers and architects and assist our technical support engineers with complex and challenging issues. As a Software Maintenance Engineer, you will also partner closely with development engineering teams and work alongside some of the brightest developers in the open source community.
Primary job responsibilities
Partner with the upstream communities for Red Hat OpenStack Platform and other network functions virtualization (NFV)-related technologies to develop and review patches and test cases
Analyze upstream development against current customer-reported defects and develop patches to resolve issues
Use optimal tools to diagnose issues with Red Hat OpenStack Platform components, virtualization platform, Linux Kernel, and NFV technologies like DPDK, SRIOV, and NUMA
Record customer interactions, including investigation, troubleshooting, and resolution of issues
Work closely with Red Hat development engineering teams and assist production support engineers and technical account managers
Demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques to obtain solutions
Maintain a commitment to providing the best experience possible for Red Hat's customers
Manage your workload to ensure that all customer issues are handled and resolved in a timely manner
Assist in the development of comprehensive and reusable self-service solutions for future incidents
Based on current and future milestones of the Red Hat OpenStack Platform plan, request for technical sessions and hardware to prepare the teammates to build new skills
Bachelor's degree in a technical field; engineering or computer science is a plus
5+ years of experience as a support or development engineer for virtualization or cloud technologies on Linux
Experience working with Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) platforms and NFVi projects
Good understanding of Linux command line tools
Deep knowledge of the KVM virtualization platform, Linux networking, network architecture, high availability, identity management, and REST APIs
Experience with tcpdump analysis, Open vSwitch networking, and MySQL databases
Commitment to providing the best experience possible for Red Hat's customers
The following are considered a plus:
Linux operating system installation, configuration, upgrade, maintenance, troubleshooting, and performance tuning experience
Solid development-level experience with Python and experience writing patches
Upstream involvement in open source projects like patches submitted for upstream inclusion
