Description

This is a full-time position based in the European Technology Center in Ghent - Zwijnaarde.


This posting is for an Applications Development Scientist in the Plasticizers Technical Service and Applications Development group. The position will have responsibility for applications research and development supporting developing businesses and some existing business within Eastman, as well as providing Technical Assistance to our external customers. The successful applicant will be expected to translate market needs into product concepts and subsequently develop the concepts into commercial products. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively and function in an innovative, fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment.


Job description:


•Serve as a technical expert for plasticizer formulations and uses both for customers and internal partners and will be expected to conduct/oversee laboratory work to develop basic knowledge to support new businessopportunities


•Translate fundamental knowledge of polymer materials and functional additives to the development of new applications and the identification of new market spaces


•Identify needs and opportunities through discussion with customers, sales and marketing personnel with the ability to translate those needs into innovative product solutions


•Propose a course of action based on data analysis


•Lead multidisciplinary new product development project teams


•Communicate results through effective written documentation and oral presentations


•Travel for customer interactions and technical conferences


Education Requirements:


Ph.D. or M.S. in Polymer Science, Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field from an accredited college or university is required.


Experience Requirements:


•5+ years of industrial product development experience is highly desireable


•Track record of innovation is highly desirable


•Experience with plasticizers, PVC, PVB, and vinyl acetate emulsion polymers and/or additive systems for PVC formulations is strongly preferred


•Broad interests and willingness to take on relatively undefined challenges


•Strong interpersonal and communication skills
