The Innovation ecosystem in China is currently expanding with unprecedented speed, leveraging a combination of exceptionally trained scientists, generous government funding and a clear determination to become a world class player in biomedical innovation.
This trend includes top tier universities such as Tsinghua and Peking U and a growing spectrum of spinouts and incubators.
It is critical for Roche to access this system early on and build sustainable bridges that eventually translate to a competitive edge in our core research and technology development areas.
The external alliance manager could be one vehicle to help enable the accomplishment of that goal.
This position will play a key role in supporting scouting and accessing Innovation for all pRED DTAs and global functions in Shanghai, Beijing and beyond.
Responsibilities could include initiating specific collaborations in response to DTA/TMo/PS needs, building and maintaining relationships with the local academic/healthcare community, and supporting contract negotiations and alliance management for existing collaborations across disease areas, in close collaboration with Roche Partnering.
This space will be built in alignment with pRED global strategy including that of other centers of activity, such as Basel, New York, Boston and Copenhagen.
This position requires a Ph.D. in biology/chemistry, and experience in early stage innovation or scientific collaboration, and in-depth knowledge about the local scientific community.
This position would be well positioned to leverage RICS DTA/Global function (GF) resource to jointly explore the external innovation landscape in China, and to manage the interface of RICS and external partners in terms of contract, payment process, research plan execution, and report collection. In addition, this position will need to interact with Roche internal colleagues including RPF global management, I2O DTA (as well as other DTAs and GF) external alliance management, legal, finance, and IP.
This position requires excellent communication and language skills (English), collaboration spirit, and detail-oriented operational skills.
This position will report to Site Head of RICS, while being part of the global I2O/NRD/ONC/TMo/PS community, and particularly in close relation with I2O Basel external alliance managers, who will serve as a consultant/mentor/dotted line manager, etc.
