Legal Counsel Rotterdam

Job description:

Advise local management and business on all legal issues including general insurance, regulatory, commercial, data privacy and other areas, and, as the sole lawyer in the country, be the internal and external point of contact for all Dutch legal matters. Assist management, the business and support areas in delivering their objectives and preserving the legal compliance of the company with local laws and corporate guidelines.

 Role and Responsibilities


For our operations in The Netherlands we are looking for a dedicated, curious, and dynamic lawyer and team-player, who enjoys working in a fast-paced and a highly entrepreneurial environment. Principal accountabilities include:


- Advising on insurance contract law and regulatory matters across business lines;
- Negotiating distribution agreements with third parties for sale of company products, including drafting/reviewing terms of business agreements, MGAs, claims handling and other insurance mediation services and outsourcing agreements;
- Reviewing (re) insurance policies;
- Managing non claims litigation and coordinating with outside legal counsel;
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating non-insurance commercial contracts (e.g. IT/IP, supplier, intra-group, data transfer, and non-disclosure agreements);
- Undertaking legal research, developing and maintaining standard legal documentation and knowhow, drafting briefing notes;
- Supporting the business on any legal issues arising from the day-to-day activities of the Dutch operations (including data privacy, employment, general commercial, competition law, sanctions)
- Developing and maintaining familiarity with the legal and regulatory environment and framework for main areas of business focus, manage interaction with local regulators;
- Collaborating with teams, providing legal support across a highly-matrixed group organisation; and
- Undertaking other duties as assigned and/or required, including providing legal support for other Benelux countries from time to time;Key Skills and Experience


- You have a Master's degree in Law;
- You have at least 5 years of experience in an (international) law firm or as an in-house legal counsel in the fields of commercial and (non life) insurance law;
- Your mother tongue is Dutch, with excellent oral and written proficiency in English. Knowledge of other languages (French) is a plus but not a necessity.
- You have strong written and good communication skills and find it easy to establish contacts.
- You are business-oriented, solution-minded and are good at analysing and summarising information.
- You are a self starter who likes working autonomously and yet also show team spirit.
- You have the ability to adapt in a changing environment.
- You have the ability to prioritise and work under pressure to tight deadlines
- You have strong negotiation and influencing skill
