Model Control Office (MCO) is a relatively new unit created at the beginning of 2017 in response to the model risk being classified as a primary risk for investment banking. The unit has a wide remit encompassing all aspects of model monitoring and control and model documentation.
Composed of subject matter experts, MCO acts as a model owner delegate and is accountable for internal controls and compliance to external regulations. It partners with MRMR, QA, RnA, functions and business to deliver its strategic objective of enhancing controls around model used by Barclays. MCO covers all asset classes.
What will you be doing?
The role will sit within Barclays International Risk department. It is created to strengthen the controls around mathematical models used by Barclays and ensure model documentation is written to the high standard with adherence to the regulatory requirements.
• Key Accountabilities
o Ensuring that the model documentation is correct, comprehensive and complete;
o Remediating incomplete / creating missing End-to-End model documentation;
o Assisting with review/remediation of any controls around the models to satisfy the regulatory requirements.
• Stakeholder Management and Leadership
o The role will require the individual to interact with multiple stakeholders in different areas including but not limited to FO, risk function, quantities analytics, etc. The candidate should be comfortable take a lead on the model documentation /controls remediation and discussing this agenda with colleagues of any grade.
• Decision-making and Problem Solving
o The individual would need to have excellent problem solving skills and ability to work independently while contributing to the team’s overall objective.
• Risk and Control Objective
o Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards.
What we’re looking for:
• Quantitative background;
• Experience working in a similar role or another quantitative position such as QA or model validation;
• Strong product knowledge including derivative products;
• Working understanding of technology infrastructure surrounding model implementation;
• Good understanding of existing / potential direct/indirect model controls implemented within FO, Market Risk, Product Control, etc.
Skills that will help you in the role:
• Knowledge of the SR 11-7 Standard.
• Experience of working in a similar role
