Objectives of the Position
To plan and direct marketing activities in Japan relating to the Strategic development of the new business opportunity beyond today’s core business in order to create new revenue stream by implementing consistently the overall NMD strategy, using technical, organizational and customer knowledge. In addition, provide inputs and participate in the marketing, market planning and technical development of new products and services.
To coordinate locally, the global technology scouting activities of the PM – NMD team in order to develop the next generation ideas for Phasegate input and development.

Project pipeline KPIs: Acquired projects (total sales volume potential) / Commercialized projects (total sales volume) / Other R&D / NMD KPIs

Operational/organizational metrics
Innovations: Vitality index (share of new products in total revenues) / New product launch targets
Commercial excellence: Drive best business practices / Forecasting accuracy / Ensure business sustainability
Deep knowledge of mega/technology/market trends (ability to translate into product needs)
Technical background by education (chemistry, engineering); certain level of M&S understanding (not the first job after college/university)
Good network within PM, GM and BFB (good level of communication skills)
Comprehensive polymer knowledge and reasonable knowledge about PM product and the applications, where the products are already in use
Basic skills in project management
Open minded, creative and motivated team player (strong self-motivation)
Ability to recognize and understand value capturing business models (conduct market analyses)
Development of technical/economic evaluation and market analyses for a product idea in order to prepare a data summary for a “gate – decision”

Main Tasks


Identification of new business opportunities outside the scope of the existing business, incl. M&A
Identify, establish and leverage close contact to trendscouts at customer side
Systematic screening of markets for new applications for PM products
Sources for ideas: trend analyses, trade fairs, internet, customers, innovations workshops, regional Initiatives (e.g.big EU-Projects), Institutes, competitive materials, internal competition, concept studies
Evaluate potential most „promising“ partner/customer
Development of executive summaries (market size, value chain, players, current solution, regulations, hinderances, competitors, etc.) in order to pass „gate“ to transfer idea to a „real project“ (describe the „unique value proposition“)
Establishing of benchmarks for new products and business cases
Contribute to development and implement segment, application, product and customer strategies to achieve sales targets
Establish relationships with strategic customers
Support launch of new products at key customers
Represent the company in trade and professional organizations to stay in touch with market trends




§NMD accountable for scouting activities (market and new businesses)
§With research, bimonthly alignment meeting of NMD scouts for idea exchange and technical challenging
§NMD scouts and R&D reps have joint quarterly meetings with BNB
§Manages internal interfaces to R&D, BNB, other NMD scouts, product and application development , marketing & sales, operations
§Manages external interfaces to NMD customers, consultants, market experts, universities, suppliers, etc.
§With sector management, develop phasegate projects for approval



Minimum Education and Qualification Required for the Position
Education: Bachelors Degree in Technical field
Working Experience: 3 years in Strategic role involving strategic planning.
2 years overseas experience.
2 years in product management or technical development role.
Experience in “change management”. Big –picture thinker!
Deep sense of Entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to changing the business.
Technical & Professional Knowledge: Advanced technical knowledge in Chemical/ Material or Mechanical field.
