Exciting opportunity to be part of a new SysOps Team supporting Science & Enabling Units IT for AstraZeneca.

We are building a team of talented, flexible individuals to help complement the DevOps capability for AZ IT. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who craves new technologies and is looking for responsibility, ownership and variety.

Role Overview

We are looking for a talented SysOps Engineer to help us support our DevOps capability. We need someone who is able to work alongside multiple development teams and who is self-motivated and able to actively contribute new ideas to the AWS platform utilisation, new design and rollouts.

In your role as SysOps Engineer, you will be working in an agile way with project development teams and also with solution architects to support the existing environment and provide guidance and support to the continuing growth in AWS usage within the S&EU IT division.

Key Responsibilities:

Create and maintain automated provisioning of platforms, services, servers, applications and software (e.g. CloudFormation, Chef recipes, Scripts, etc) with continual monitoring health checks and ensuring data security.
Maintain and improve environment integrity – review and improvement of existing security measures (Security Groups, subnets, ACLs, patching instances, IAM roles & policies, S3 bucket policies), adherence to AZ IT security standards, ensuring adherence to governance processes for projects who consume SysOps services, encoding of governance and process into technology to streamline delivery
Provide support to projects on use of the environment and the various technologies used to support it
Prepare and maintain system architecture documentation, status logs and reports
Monitor system usage/performance, plan and forecast future capacity needs and analyse / challenge anomalies.
Lead/contribute to infrastructure, design and cloud services decisions on a per project basis as well as to the team as a whole
Jenkins, CI/CD, Sonar, automated testing tools, JIRA, Confluence, AWS CLI, Chef/Puppet
Essential skills and experience

Installation, configuration, maintenance and upgrades of EC2 instances in VPCs
Experience and familiarity with a range of automated deployment tools
Willingness to learn and develop new tech skills as required
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to work effectively as part of a team or independently to deliver objectives
Experience of working in agile teams using methodologies such as SCRUM and SAFe
The candidate must be able to demonstrate evidence of the following:
Capturing performance of virtual instances, be able to talk around the process and provide real life scenarios
must be able to clearly demonstrate their design capability of a cloud environment in the interview by reacting to scenario questions
have at least 3 years’ experience in cloud and design
have at least 4 years’ experience in system maintenance, recovery and administration across Linux and Windows
have at least 2 years’ experience with skills around virtual instances, cloud and automation with an emphasis on AWS
have at least 2 years’ experience of cloud administration with an emphasis on AWS
have at least 3 years’ experience with skills around automation and tools such as (but not limited to) Jenkins, Chef, CloudFormation, Lambda etc.
must be able to demonstrate evidence of regularly working across multiple teams
must have at least 1 year of working within an agile project
Desirable Technical Skills:

Hands-on experience using AWS Infrastructure (EC2, S3, IAM, RDS, EMR, ELB, Cloudwatch, CloudTrail, SNS, ElasticBeanstalk, EMR, Lambda, API Gateway, Data Pipeline, SQS, SES, Directconnect, VPN/VPGs, DirectoryService, Redshift)
Scripting, programming, configuration – Python (boto), Shell, JSON, YAML, CloudFormation, Perl, HTML
Experience with containers and container management technologies – ECS, Kubernetes, Docker Swarm etc
Familiarity with CI/CD tools, processes, pipelines etc – Jenkins, Sonar, Automated testing tools, etc
Good understanding of AWS Security (VPC, IAM Roles and policies, Bucket policies, Security Groups Network ACLs, etc)
Hands-on experience with AWS deployment (Chef / Puppet, CloudFormation, Scripting with AWS CLI)
Cloud design for scalability, elasticity and high availability
Experience in maintaining Windows and Linux servers/virtual machines 
Experience with Active Directory
