Job Purpose (What is the reason that this position exists? What is the value added by this position?)
This position provides Subject Matter expertise system support for specific unix/linux capabilities with a very strong knowledge of other UNIX/Linux Operating Systems capabilities. The individual must be able to provide technical assistance, advice or solutions for highly complex issues, projects or business requirements. The position also works with vendors to provide optimum system performance and availability. To be the expert reference point for the Unix capability that he is supporting (AIX/Solaris/Linux)
Key Accountabilities (What are the main areas in which the position must get results in order to achieve its purpose?)
- Operational Skills
Recommend updates and enhancements based on standard and best practices. Maintain continuous system uptime, patching levels, analyze for performance tuning. Produce reports essential for proper management of the Linux environment. Maintain the environment to satisfy security requirements set by business drivers and Information Security department. Able to drive conversations pertaining to his or her area of expertise.
- Process Compliance
Ensure proper technical process compliance and documenting the same, resolve all issues using standard practices, procedures and company approved troubleshooting tools and workflow processes. Escalate issues to appropriate parties as necessary.
- Teaching, mentoring, and knowledge sharing
Ability to work side by side with others and provide mentoring and support. Willingness to share and the ability to listen and be patient with others as they learn.
- Prevent future problems by automating processes
Ability to be proactive in problem solving , creating a system that can either eliminate the problem or automate the process of finding the solution
Clear peer-to-peer communication and act as team player in meeting SLA and dealing with issues and escalation. Interact with technical support groups as needed, within and beyond his area of expertise to resolve issues and problems while exhibiting exceptional customer service skills.
