Are Tears the New Fingerprints?

Are Tears the New Fingerprints?

cfc6a000.jpg

I find it fascinating the new facts about tears. They unfold new realties and next time you cry have a new attitude to the tears you shed. New scientific findings disrupt our beliefs, and I dare say even well-established scientific Laws such as Newton's Law for every action there is an action. I say the reaction is specific to the action and state we are in. It is not a general one. Equally important is that these findings disrupt our attitudes to crying.

The adaptability of the human body in spite of its complexity is amazing. Stress in our bodies generates volatiles that mix with the exhaled air when we breathe. From this breath we may detect harmful chemicals and the breath is used in hospitals now to check our healthiness.

It was a great question by Rose-Lynn Fisher if tears are all the same. There are tears by onion. These tears are not generated because of internal emotions such as tears of sadness or tears of joy. They are not basal tears that help our eyes to stay lubricated. The tears are the reaction of different actions. We call them tears, but are they equivalent?

Taking a tear on a slide and drying it will leave behind the chemicals that are in tears. Surprisingly, not all tears are the same. They mirror the actions that caused them. These chemicals impact the flow of tears. Inspecting the flows of different tears showed that they vary and have their own "flow patterns". Tears caused from onion are different from tears caused by stress leading us to cry. In the latter case tears contain stress chemicals the body releases to tranquilize us. Tears are thus the fingerprints of our states because they have distinct patterns and chemical composition.

These findings also reveal the need to let our emotions flow and force them not to flow out. We need to express our emotions and if we imprison our tears we also prison chemicals that our bodies want to get rid of. That men shouldn't cry is a distorted and even intoxicating belief. Next time your child cries may be he is doing the right thing and by asking him not to cry we are asking him/her to keep the intoxicating chemical in his/her body.

One other very interesting aspect of tears is studying their emotional swing. If we notice somebody crying from sorrow (say hearing news that a relative passed away). While crying this person receives breaking news that the relative is still alive and this person starts crying out of joy. Will the tears show a distinct pattern? They did and the work of Rose-Lynn Fisher reveals this. Will tears be our new tool to study the swing between opposite emotions?

                                           Source: http://theawesomedaily.com/tears-are-awesome/

We say the tears of whales- wonder now what this expression means exactly. We have the bleeding heart plant and I wonder what tears our bleeding hearts may generate. We have the weeping plants which, unlike other plants, don't grow vertically. They look like crying, but people enjoy landscapes filled with these plants. Is the weeping of others becoming our source of joy? There is the Baby's Tear plant. Tears plant gets its name from the tiny, round leaves cascading down slender, fragile stems. Do tears cry or are these the tears of whales in another form? Will the study of baby's tear reveal if they are genuinely crying because of pain, hunger or because they want to draw attention? Not all tears are alike.

The human body is amazing with its adaptability. Even tears may tell us a lot about us and our behaviors. Vary our emotional state and you vary the tears. Is there a better sensory system?

I read this again Ali Anani, still very impactful. I always encouraged, never discouraged, my children from crying. We were taught in school that tears can release toxins and also leads to less aggression, especially in boys. I know i always feel a deep sense of calm or very sleepy after a good cry. Onions, well those tears just burn lol.

Great analogy and an eye-opener your comment Sara Jacobovici. I say you are The Thinker and your comment support what I am saying. I say and based on my personal experiences that you are correct and in fat your insights are deep. When our dreams flow with our genuine and passionate desires they vibrate and tell us a message. You just provoked my mind and I am asking myself now this question: if tears are the reaction to certain feelings and situations why not dreams are the same? Our bodies release tears and may be they too release dreams. Not all body releases should be tangible. Dreams don't come from vacuum and I find myself wondering now!!!

Tausif Mundrawala- I love your comment and in particular "We are bound to shed tears as its evident of us being alive". What a lovely way to put it. We say to be living is to be growing. I find yours at least at equal par. Great mind you have

I was speaking with someone about dreams and I mentioned that dreams are a good release and I described it as a psychological detox. Then your Buzz came to mind and I saw a parallel between dreams and tears. I found an article that includes this description: "Certain sleep disorders may be accompanied by altered dreaming. Insomnia can heighten dream recall, and also lead to more stressful and disturbing dreams. (Depression and anxiety are also more likely in people with insomnia.) Obstructive sleep apnea, because of its ability to disrupt normal REM sleep, can cause disturbed dreaming with more bizarre and negative dream content. Narcolepsy, a disorder that involves extreme daytime tiredness and altered sleep-wake cycles, can also lead to more negative and bizarre dreams. Restless Leg Syndrome, a neurological disorder and a sleep disorder, can also be accompanied by nightmares." https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/sleep-newzzz/201502/why-do-we-dream Looks like dreams too have a flow or path. I would like to add that non-disturbing dreams also have their flow; I think some dreams are from the creative process we posses.

Ali Anani

Because you are wise enough to do so Lisa Gallagher. I wish to tell you that I wonder if antiperspirants are also also welcome. They interfere with a natural human process. I am just wondering. Also, it is not also tears aren't similar; their flowing pattern are characteristics. What we try to hide, our bodies reveal.

I just heard something about this on the news Ali Anani. I find this quite interesting! They say no two tears resembles another. I hope with each new generation of boys that are born, they are taught it's OK to cry. I'm not sure why it used to be un-masculine for a male to cry? I taught my son it was ok and healthy. It was acceptable in our home to shed tears.

Ali Anani

Dear Deb Lange- your comment is pulsating with wisdom. yes, tears are a natural process and we stop the natural flow. The paradox is that we go with the "manufactured" flow of believing that crying is weakness and the flow of such opinions stay with us for decades. When trees get injured they produce gum to heal. That is the job and once it is done the gum flows and sticks outside. Tears are expressions of what goes inside us and by hiding tears we don't remove what is really going inside us. Our beliefs to trust opinions that work against nature and accept to go with the opposite flow till it becomes the main flow and very difficult to get rid of is a paradox that shows our self-limiting behaviors. That is why I believe your forthcoming book dear Deb is of immense importance. The example you give in your comment is worthy of spreading and teaching. I hope you release your book soon because it serves nobody if it is delayed.

Amazing is the depth of your comment dear Praveen Raj Gullepalli. You attracted my attention on two issues. First, what you awote "I know that the tears of self-pity are the most dangerous". That is interesting. What kind of tears self-pity produce. May be the type of tears and understanding them help authors go with their flow and describe characters as per their tears type. I shall think about this. The second point is the study of animals' tears and comparing it to humans. Yes, tears are apparently a great visual representation of what goes inside us.

Dear Irene Hackett- I am glad that you inparticular liked this buzz. The reason is the exchange of comments that we had on my precious buzz, which I dedicated to you, we both mentioned tears. This was the main reason the idea of this buzz spurred. Yes, women are more "natural; than men in allowing the tears flow. Women in avarage cry more by 7-8 times than men per year. I can't remember the figures exactly, but I am not off the mark by a noticeable margin. Thank you for being natural as I sensed from the flow of your comment.

Only recently it has been revealed that not all tears are the same dear debasish majumder. the fact that we grouped all tears in one bucket shows our pitfalls. Research has shown that when fear stresses us the body responds by releasing a tranquilizer. This chemical must be washed out through tears. And so are other emotions they have different chemicals associated with them. We are opening our eyes to new findings. The image for tears coming out because od onion are totally different from tears coming out from joy, sadness and other emotions. I believe up to 99 different tear types have been identified so far. The last two comments of dears CityVP Manjit sparked an idea in my mind. I would love your thoughts before expanding into a buzz. I say for every internal flow there is an opposing external one. Pioneers live in the flow of new ideas and eventually this flow overcomes the opposing external flow coming from long-established beliefs, traditions or whatever. It is only when the internal flow has enough force to offset the external one that these pioneers announce their views. This might explain why people tend to go with flow because there internal flow isn't strong enough to offset the external one. What do you think?

Thank you so much dear CityVP Manjit- Yes, we subvert the natural for a variety of reasons. The question is how come such ruining to continue for long times? Are our bonding to the old so strong to be questioned? I tell you you are ahead of your time to say "..the tears of joy or the tears of pain is God running down our cheek."Very insightful you are, Manjit

CityVP Manjit

Fascinating absolutely fascinating. I have never thought about tears as an emission of chemistry and this reinforces what our body naturally does and evolved into, rather than the cultural beliefs we carry that subvert the natural. One of those beliefs you have outlined in the societal attitude about men crying. Prior to this I treated tears in the poetic form where the tears of joy or the tears of pain is God running down our cheek. You had added greatly to the science behind what our bodies are helping us with.

Wonderful Buzz Ali Anani. What a great line, "Tears are thus the fingerprints of our states because they have distinct patterns and chemical composition." You have opened a door wide open with this. I have known about the difference in tears but always within the context of the body's release. Now I see the importance of the process of each individual "flow pattern". Thanks Dr. Ali.
