If we walk in the darkness we can’t see. Does it make a difference if we are blind and can’t see our way? Blind walking in darkness and a blind can’t see- both can’t see their way. How to move out of darkness is the question this post addresses.

Organizations are frequently led by the blind and they put us in blindness. They are riskier than the blind because the blind arouse us to find ways to help them see their way. Dark leaders send us deeper into darkness. Dark psyches filled with dark grudge. We face events like the black swans and they could ruin our lives.

I believe the challenge here is so great and provides a great opportunity to come up with creative ideas that act as a light source for us to see our way through the darkness.

In psychology we discuss Johari window and it has a window that is labelled blind. It is when we don’t know about ourselves what others know. If we are sighted then in reality, we are blind. How to meet this challenge and generate creative ideas that enlighten us? To answer this question, I refer to three living species. These are: the birds that can fly in darkness, the blind cavefish and the physically blind people. How they meet the challenge of darkness may guide us.

Birds like bats can fly in darkness and this gives them the edge to attack their preys without being seen. There is an opportunity in moving in darkness. Research have shown that bats have ultrasensitive senses, which guide them in flying in darkness such as using echolocation.

The blind cavefish that live in total darkness in dark caves of water are amazing in that they find their way in deep darkness. One way they do this is by developing a body structure that help them in figuring the contour of the walls of the cave upon touching them. Another explanation is that they use a modified echolocation “it is different from echolocation, but it is similar because you have an animal that is purposefully emitting pressure waves to locate obstacles”,

Our advancements to help the blind see their way are amazing. These include variety of methods such as using colored coded signs on the road. The blind with mobile phones and an aps can hear the voice instructing them where to go meters away from the signs.

Another approach is by enabling the blind to figure out their way by using interactive maps that make the map tangible for the blind upon touching it.

Instead of cursing darkness why not consider it a great way of enlightenment? Can we find ways to help the “blind leaders” find light in their blindness to show them the right way?

This excellent piece brought to mind to phrases. When approaching an unknown people are described or describe themselves as either "going in blind" or "going in with their eyes open." Whichever hopefully they aren't "going in wearing blinkers" Articles like this as with so many on beeBee encourage us to discard our blinkers and widen our horizons.

It is written in Scripture: "A man who is walking in the dark does not know where he is going" Wisdom is required. Discernment is required. Wise people will not willingly follow "blind guides" God, the Source of wisdom says: “lean not on our own understanding but in all your ways acknowledge HIM and He will make your path straight” (Proverbs 3) How to move out of darkness: "In His Light ... we have light" Light dispels darkness ... wisdom puts chaos to flight

Dear Tausif Mundrawala- this line in your comment is nugget of wisdom " I found a sense of light where even in darkness we could see and our senses work proactively which we thought doesn't exist". In cases of imposed and temporary blindness "as you experienced with electricity cut off" our sleeping senses awaken without even realizing if we remain calm and disciplined. This is a great insight and I thank you for it. I hope that life will soon give you the light of finding a better job or giving your private business the ray of success..

Dear - it is sheer pleasure to read your comment and its sensibility. The comments so far here and on LinkedIn gave the inspiration for the idea of my next buzz. I shall show why blinds follow blinds. For now I say that living upside down with the conscious submerged may even be purposeful sometimes. However; when we get used too seeing the world in an upside down fashion and facts become the odd thing to do then after a while this becomes a habit that our minds adjusts to. Same with following blind leaders. After a while the masses get used to it. I shall provide examples then to explain what I mean in a greater detail and supported with videos and miscellaneous examples. One thing is assured and I am not blind to it. It is your comments always provoke new ideas in my head. Thank you my friend.

Great post dear Dr.Ali 🐝 Anani, Brand Ambassador @beBee As many as mentioned we are living in a world where blind leaders have blind followers. This blindness is voluntary though. They ( The blind we talk about) choose to see what they want, ignore the truth and hide reality. Consciousness becomes a forgotten reality here. We all know to understand consciousness, we need to revolutionize our understanding of the physical world, questions our thoughts & actions but when we we do so, we are seen as outsiders or are put down for attempting to raise this awareness. Blind leaders curb curiosity and those the followers are more than ever stuck in patterns and habit loops they don’t even notice. And when curiosity and thinking why, happens, we are in a blind world. The light has to be ignited by leaders who advocate curiosity, creativity and understanding such as yourself! An interesting topic as always :)

Dear Lada 🏡 Prkic. Blind leading blinds. Any ray of light will have then have a better illuminating value. An old Arab poet said that if you don’t know it is a disaster. If you don’t know that you don’t know then the disaster is greater. In the Johari window he described what you don’t know and others know about you as the blind domain. So, if leaders don’t know those who know have a responsibility to tell him this. Now, the question becomes how to show blind leaders their reality. This buzz attempted to draw lessons from what we experienced in making physically blind people the way. Communication has a pivotal role here. Maybe one way is to use pressure as outlined in my previous response to Roberto. Maybe find “sign” that read out instructions for them to show them the direction. It is a huge task and I agree with you. But, is there another alternative darkening the dark?

Yes, Roberto De la Cruz Utria as collectively we may exert the pressure that blows the waters of arrogant leaders. In the buzz I mentioned the cavefish and how they through the pressure they exert can find their way by echolocation. Maybe collectively we do to blind leaders so that they may know better where they stand even though they are blind.

Dear Ali, your post reminds me of the phrase, "blind leaders of the blind." Sadly, in today's world, "blind" leaders lead those who see but decide to follow leaders with no vision or clear agenda. You can find those leaders at all levels of management, and they are the worst thing that can happen to any organisation. Unfortunately, we have so many "blind" and insensitive leaders in our society today, particularly in politics. Can we find ways to help the “blind leaders” find light in their blindness to show them the right way? Hardly, particularly when those leaders have "I know best" attitude avoiding any possibility that they are not on the right path. We can help them best if we don't act like blind followers.

Reaching out for help is a difficult thing for those lost in the shadows...They are more inclined to listen to those who have been submerged in darkness...perhaps swimming along side them for a while before breaking free and swimming towards the surface. I am reminded of the lyrics to a Bruce Springsteen song... I get up in the evening And I ain't got nothing to say I come home in the morning I go to bed feeling the same way I ain't nothing but tired Man I'm just tired and bored with myself Hey there baby, I could use just a little help You can't start a fire You can't start a fire without a spark This gun's for hire Even if we're just dancing in the dark;-)

Ali 🐝 Anani, Brand Ambassador @beBee Funny you should mention sports. I see sports as a mere distraction--keeping people from contemplation. Busy the mind with meager things, and they do not have time to notice what is going on around them. Our "busyness" holds us back from true accomplishment. and promotes the accumulation of "things." Hey--want to buy a Red Sox shirt?

I just compare what a great researcher makes versus a football player or a singer. I am not degrading arts, but the lopsided affairs of down playing the value of contributing intellectuals who play with their minds rather than their feet makes me what values we extend to our world today. Without values we are lost. Thank you dear Joyce 🐝 Bowen Brand Ambassador @ beBee for we maybe progressively becoming "blind societies".
I curse imposed darkness. There is a blunting of intellectual curiosity and critical thinking is almost a crime these days. For many years, I've observed how people are being led down a path to supposed riches--riches being defined by "things" rather than what lies within us. We no longer value the most important things in life. We pass them up in pursuit of status and--well--things. I meet with a group weekly to discuss ways we can have impacts on our small corner of the world.

Dear Oswaldo Enrique Diaz Delgado- you wrote a deep comment and I enjoyed reading its conclusion "They never forget their duties of conscience, from extending their bed "Symbolism" with clean sheets to clean every day their soul in each morning. Dear Cyndi wilkins- I love this "However, to see the light one must be willing to remove his blinders". Yes, without readiness for the leaders to remove the dark masks covering their eyes lighting a torch for them shall not be enough. It takes two to tango. There are people with dark hearts and concepts and dealing with them is quite challenging.

The late Dr. Taha Hussein was nicknamed the :Dean of Arab literature" even though he was totally blind at three years of age. He wrote that half-educated people are more ignorant than the totally ignorant ones. You extend the same logic dear Zacharias 🐝 Voulgaris. Your point is valid and I appreciate your bringing this very important issue to our attention.

"Can we find ways to help the “blind leaders” find light in their blindness to show them the right way?" There is a lot to consider in this statement as the "blind leaders" will always 'see' their way as the right way...Blindness translates to narrow mindedness. We can certainly present new ways of thinking, perhaps creating a crevice of light along the path of darkness...However, to see the light one must be willing to remove his blinders;-) Another great mind bender Ali 🐝 Anani, Brand Ambassador @beBee...All one can do is keep planting the seeds....

Thank you for the insightful food for thought Ali 🐝 Anani, Brand Ambassador @beBee! Frankly I'm more concerned by the half-blind people. A blind person is bound to be aware of his/her impairment and take actions about it, while the other senses may be boosted. The half-blind person though (i.e. someone who knows a bit but not enough to have a realistic view of the domain) is bound to be less inclined to seek help or accept it when it is offered. Cheers

Dr. Ali, this brings to mind the saying: “Better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness”. We can, with technology overcome visual impairment. it takes a great deal more to move the one with darkness of the heart or soul from the path they have chosen for themselves and their organizations. In my experience, if the individual cannot be moved, the organization is doomed. And so it goes.
