Emerging Stresses

Emerging Stresses

7207c3c9.jpg

Whether visual or not, whether observable or not we tend to move in circles. Not only humans, but even animals, crops, ideas, negotiations, conflicts, meetings and attempts to change habits such as dieting to name few examples. We have the same tendency to draw electrons orbitals as circles or spheres and they aren’t always circular or spherical. This observation tempted me to write this buzz.

The idea of going in circles has attracted the interest of musicians and poets:

You got me going in circles
Oh, around and around I go
Going in circles
Oh, around and around I go
I'm strung out over you

Let me start first with visual examples of things going in circles.

Crop Circles

You may have heard of crops forming circles. Crop circles — strange patterns that appear mysteriously overnight in farmers' fields—incite bafflement and delight for us all.

Animal Circles

I share a enthralling video showing reindeer herds moving in circular patterns.

Why animals move in circles is still a mystery. Reasons to explain this behavior include:

· Physical factors such as in pets where pets suffering from pain tend to release the stress of their pain by going in circles

· Psychological factors such as lack of stimulation and the resulting stress of boredom drive the animal to move in cycles. There is a lesson for us here that boring meetings and discussions may stress us and find us moving in cycles.

· Neurological and other factors

Another interesting video shows turkeys circling a dead cat. Do we do the same when we make an employee feel inactive and too weak to respond with the turkeys-like human going in circles round him? What pleasure they draw out of this I don’t know.

People walking in circles

The research findings are fascinating. People tend to walk in circles when they think they are walking straight forward. They are not because mostly they lack the sense of direction. I ask here do we behave like other animals and when we feel stressed because of illuminating light and suffer from the stress of darkness? People really walk in circles when they do not have reliable cues to their walking direction. So are organizations as they lose illumination and go around in circles if there is no light.

The sunlight helps us walk straight, but what if there is no sunlight. Why few people keep walking straight while the majority go in circles? I believe it is in self-illumination. Like marine animals in produce their light and find their way. We need illuminating ideas that self-motivate us to not go in circles.

We find people going in circles in meetings, in negotiations, in attempting to be perfectionists when good enough is sufficient and in resolving conflicts. There are no illuminating ideas and these activities end up futile and going back to square one. If there are no illuminating ideas search for them for no matter what you attempt you shall keep going in circles unless you produce them.

Emerging stresses as a result of our complex lives, rapid changes and interruptions make us lose direction and walk in circles. We may learn from nature how to cope with them. There is no better solution than being self-illuminating.

I dedicate this buzz to my two illuminating friends @Cyndi wilkins and @David Navarro López. There illuminating ideas have sparked the idea of this buzz. These two friends illuminate where there is no sunlight.

@Ali 🐝 Anani, Brand Ambassador @beBee Ali~ I love the idea of "turning the familiar into the unfamiliar" But I'll turn that around to say that stretching the mind often means turning the unfamiliar into the familiar Again my response is in process: "Wisdom is NOT stupid" Wishing God's rich wisdom & blessings upon your life & words

Dear Fay Vietmeier- I responded to your beautiful comment on my stupidity buzz. I challenged you with the idea :Wisdom is Stupid". This is paradoxical, but creative ideas pour in when we turn the familiar into the unfamiliar. I am not less impressed by you. I sent you earlier a message expressing how grateful I am to connect with you.

Ali 🐝 Anani, Brand Ambassador @beBee Ali~ I read your "mind-stirring" buzz: The Cynefin of Stupidity and responded there. In turn, I was inspired to also write a new buzz: "Wisdom is not stupid" ... when it's done I'll share it I appreciate you ;~) Your thoughtful words & encouraging responses touches many hearts (the quality of who you are is evident in your conversations on beBee)

@Ali 🐝 Anani, Brand Ambassador @beBee Dear Ali~ My unique life journey has helped me learn to develop the valuable quality of being a "heart-to-heart" communicator ;~) ... Speak from the heart & aim for the heart ... In Kay Kenyon’s series The Entire & the Rose there are many beautiful & interesting sentient creatures not of earth but mirroring earth. One of them, the onyx are horse-like creatures. Their riders are blinded & bound for life to a mount and they communicate “heart-to-heart” ...

Fay Vietmeier- sometimes a comment makes writing the buzz rewarding and your comment fills me with this feeling. I love your quotes and their depth. Wisdom puts chaos to flight- this is deep and makes me think with imagination. Thank you for you make me feel that chaos is fleeting away from my mind.

@Ali 🐝 Anani, Brand Ambassador @beBee Your words make me think … and smile ;~) Responding to being “self-illuminating” I have found how to stop “walking in circles” and the Source of Illumination: "In His Light ... we have light" ~ Psalm 36 Light dispels darkness ... and Wisdom puts chaos to flight God, the Source of wisdom says: “lean not on our own understanding but in all your ways acknowledge HIM and He will make your path straight” (Proverbs 3) Then there is the added benefit of Peace … which helps to alleviate stress. “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned… 6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. ~ Isaiah 9:2,6

Great comment dear Proma 🐝 Nautiyal. You highlight a great point that merits highlighting. You mentioned that " What I have significantly low tolerance levels for is people going on about the same thing in circles". This maybe stressing because exceeding our "tolerance capacity" may stress us and make us go in circles!!! This is a feedback effect that can be risky. Acceleration of feedback that is undesirable maybe edgy and soon take us to the edge of losing tolerance. Leaders must be aware of this great observation my friend.

Beautiful buzz, Ali 🐝 Anani, Brand Ambassador @beBee. I totally agree. I find this habit of going in circles both amusing and annoying. I walk in circles inside a room when I am on the phone.I guess moving helps me focus better and since there's only so much space inside a room, I end up going in circles. What I have significantly low tolerance levels for is people going on about the same thing in circles, like a dicussion or worse, a negotiation, like you mentioned. The wastage of time and energy makes it difficult for me to focus on the discussion and I keep driving the team towards finding the solution and moving on to the next thing. Your buzzes always make me introspect on things I would never have thought about otherwise. Thank you for that. :)

It is unfair to walk alone in circles dear David Navarro López, and so I am glad you joined me. Moving in circles is common for stressed people and animals. I attribute this to the fact that to minimize exposure we tend to go in circles as they have the minimum area. Hedgehogs wrap up as balls if there is a fox around. Fear and stress lead us to circle around ourselves.

And if you look at the planets, they "walk" in circles too, or better said, ellipses. Maybe we are predestined to walk in circles when there is no clear direction. Does it mean that people who walk straight, not following the pattern of the herd, are the only who is right? Just because they don't follow? It could be as well a stupid thing to do if it takes you to the wrong path. There could be a third option, that is, stop walking. Into one hand, you would be saving energy, and in the other, inactivity could lower your capabilities. I don't know, With this buzz yo kept me walking in circles, dear Ali 🐝 Anani, Brand Ambassador @beBee

sir Ali 🐝 Anani, Brand Ambassador @beBee, while you are focusing about marine animals, i find it quite intriguing as water plays the key role for their self illuminating. we know that water is di-electric and there Cerenkov radiation plays the key role. Hydrogen alone makes the difference and the light being produced by it is the key source for aquatic life to invigorate. i wonder, in the sky how Cerenkov plays its grand proposition! why birds fly too spirally? energy is truly a conundrum! always great your post sir for illuminating others. thank you very much for the post.

Evidently, form your experience dear Edward Lewellen this is still a fertile topic for further research. Hypnosis and body language provide us with easy and effective tools to understand human behavior. It is amazing as simple as they are we still know little about them. Sometimes I wonder why we allocate crazy budgets to less promising areas. I appreciate your feedback my friend and you are an authority in your fiend.

Dear Debasish Majumder- in fact, people don't always realize they walk in circles and they think they walk in straight lines. This was proven by many new researches. If plants don't realize they go in circles this could be better than humans who think they move straight when in reality they don't. One more question, when we suffer from circular thinking why do we stick to it and only a disruptive incident may change us? Why do we not see reality?

Your comment resonates strongly with me dear friend Edward Lewellen. I experienced the same while doing my PhD in England. A student who was my neighbor wouldn't talk to me for he was afraid of Arabs. For six months he would avoid looking at me in the eye. He never greeted me. Then one day he had a big problem and I helped him out. Since then he became a very close friend. Sometimes we need a disruptive experience to deal with the roots of old beliefs and perceptions.

Great contribution dear Cyndi wilkins. I love your bravery in sharing your personal experiences. This makes your comment very trustful. Your comment is consistent with those of our friend Edward Lewellen. I wonder why circling to the left in your examples. Is it because we temper the left part of the brain (the logical one)?

i wonder, whether animals as well plants can at all perceive that they too are moving in circle! apart from human being none have the capacity to think and perceive that they are moving spirally and even to gauge whether they are in upward or downward trend. we must not forget we too sometimes move in half spin like neutrino and they too seldom make any affinity with all particles. stress may too lead sometimes to no where apart from captivating ourselves in our own domain and pave the way for our extinction. thus sometimes many extremist outfits dig their own ditch not knowing in what direction they are heading for! despite they too having a mindset to do benevolence for the majority but unfortunately they lost their way in meanders! however, very illuminating buzz sir Ali 🐝 Anani, Brand Ambassador @beBee! enjoyed read and shared. thank you for the buzz.

This is a very important piece of stress management Ali 🐝 Anani, Brand Ambassador @beBee had mentioned, the spinning turns 'counterclockwise'...like pushing the 'reset' button on the brain. When my daughter was young, she displayed an overly exaggerated response to certain stimuli...We often used a therapy swing to embrace her in what was akin to 'swaddling' a baby for her comfort...(therein lies the key to the many times I have mentioned 'embrace your pain) ...and then gently spin the swing in the counterclockwise direction...Worked every time...I even find, as an adult now, that hopping onto a swing at the park can evoke feelings of great joy! Children are our greatest teachers;-)

Thank you dear Roberto De la Cruz Utria. You alerted my mind to a common thought. Best in life to create ideas is to start first with divergent thinking to produce a large heap of ideas. And then proceed to select the king idea among them and this focusing is convergent thinking. SO. we move from divergent thinking to convergent thinking. The question now is it possible with out limiting thoughts to generate many ideas, or are we producing more of the same with ideas changing only their outer skin? I also challenge our good friend Edward Lewellen to "retaliate" for the challenge he put me on. This is also what effect your comment had on me, Roberto.

Walking in darkness in forests is a great example of uncertainty causing us to walk in circles. Thank you my friend Jerry Fletcher comment. Recent research has shown that we tend to go the left, but also move in sporadic circular movements and to some degree randomly. It amazes me how we share as human many observations with animals and even plants.

Dear friend Edward Lewellen- if there feedback effect to be experienced I have it NOW. I read your comment few times and each time a new idea sparked in my mind. I loved the simplicity by which you explained the difference between thought and thinking. More, how you related having a thought may cause circular thinking. I write quite often on thoughts, but their circular effect was barely touched. I see thoughts in a new context now. Thoughts are assumptions whereas thinking is searching for the truth. Do you agree? If...then thinking restricts our thinking to a loop and this limiting the value of thinking and its free movement. I smiled while reading your third example. You wrote "As I thought about it, many of those movements are circular". Thought or thinking about it? Because thought is circular. What amazed me in this example is the circular movement of our parts of our bodies like a painful dog making a loop with its tail to release pain. You really got me thinking about my thoughts my friend.

Dr. Ali, fascinating. the mental circles which Edward describes are well know to the practitioners of marketing and are sometimes used to convince or persuade. The walking in circles phenomena is fairly well known to folks that must perform rescues in forests and jungles. If an area is unknown to a person and particularly in the dark the person will slowly circle usually to the left. And so it goes.

Thank you for your illumination John Rylance. Birds with big wings fly in half circles. As for bees their ‘round dance’ reveals a food source not far away. The ‘figure eight’ dance reveals a distant food source. I enjoyed the index figure example and your comment is a rich source for me to explore more.

A great Buzz. I'm not sure if bees fly in circles. Birds certainly do. With them it's thermal currents that normally aid their circling, rather than light. People making a decision will move their index finger in circles before pointing at what they want or stabbing it with their finger. Just like a bird of prey circling and diving on its victim.
