Is Sharing on Other Platforms Sensible?


I noticed a growing tendency to publish same post on beBee and LinkedIn platforms. It is like selling your goods twice. I understand the motives, but how sensible is that?

I even question the validity of sharing a buzz (not re-publishing) on beBee on LI even though I do it. It is from my experience that this might be harmful. I know you shall ask why? My answer is that the comments a buzz received shall not be pooled in one place and therefore to the scattering of replies. To give one example, Sara Jacobovici commented on my post on what makes a genius be highlighting patience as a prime attribute. Upon sharing same post on LI Mohammed Sultan made a similar comment. If the two opinions were placed in the same pot, their weight would double. As I am planning to write a buzz summarizing different opinions the scattering of comments in more than one place is not helpful.
Not only the duplication of published materials is void of any real value, it is also restricts feedback effect so that one comment is the seed for another. Building a cohesive story becomes less likely.

The author benefits from getting opinions from two platforms. This is an advantage. It could also harm the author when the same reader finds the same material republished at the same time. It helps sometimes to publish same material after sometime as a reminder, but the merit of publishing at two different platforms simultaneously is questionable.

I might be off the mark. What do you think?

AMIRA GARIN- you touched upon a point I am discussing in my next buzz. Heavy seeds don't disperse ealing and may not reach far areas. This could be done with some techniques, but you have a solid point.

Maja Vujovic- very sound approach and I used it occasionally. Like companies who share features pf products before manufacturing them, I did many diverted approaches such as publishing one slide and asking readers to add their slides. This form of co-authorship generated lots of traffic, comments and sharing. Sometimes I published a mini version and solicited opinions. This worked, but not as efficiently as the first one.

. I think of sharing as giving the post a second chance- This opinion is sound Franci Eugenia Hoffman did it and not you. So, a good idea may find its "carriers". I don't deny out of the crowded posting arena a second chance is a good idea, but also not simultaneously publishing same buzz on two sites.

It's a question with many possible answers, Ali Anani. I think that many of us are still experimenting and comparing the engagements on different platforms. Every social network has its determinants and rules. I myself did some research on what type of post is suitable for beBee comparing to LI. Short form posts about construction technologies, building materials and more regarding civil engineering do not have audience on beBee, unlike on LI where I have hundreds likes and comments on such posts. On the other hand I took first step in writing a blog post here on beBee and I didn't share or re-post it on LinkedIn because I felt beBee is a right platform for starting writing. My intention is to continue writing here where I feel so comfortable interacting with other people. I’ll try to find another approach to the beBee audience regarding the topics in the field of civil engineering.

There could be different reasoning, but it shows that social pressure and the need to be in conformity may be the motive behind such action. You know @Aleta Curry that people go where the crowd is. If I see a post attracting thousand of views then I question myself if I am wrong not to read the post. Surely, you bring many possibilities, but we have no conclusive evidences

Re-exposure opportunity is a good point and I like very much your reasoning for doing it. Let me tell you Aleta Curry a case in which I happened to read a post and somebody forgot that he did in already in another platform. In the first comment he praised strongly the post. The post received negative comments on the other platform. The same commenter was apparently influenced by the general criticism and strongly added his negative comment. The author challenged him if he had even read the post on either platform because had the commenter done that he wouldn't have forgotten he had already commented. It could harm.

Deb Helfrich- you are spot on Deb. Honesty must talk: I get here more views than LI by at least a factor of 4. However; engagement is less. My average of comments here is less than LI and as pleased I am with readership, still I miss the comments enriching me.to the same level here on beBee as I used to have on LI.

Franci Eugenia Hoffman- you bring two important points and I don't refute them. In fact, you inspired me with a new idea. However; if you ask why you do what you do and search for the root causes I can think of two. One- people are distracted more often now than before and more often the young generation. Less engagement leads to no action such as sharing. The ideal situation is for engaged readers to act. No action means the author has to do by sharing and re-publishing. The second point is only few percentages are active and the majority are sleeping majority. In advertisement we use influencers. May be we then need to identify influencers who do the action and influence others as well. Thank you for your kind words to me.

If the chief page is beBEE then it is better to look for platforms were comments can be turned off and instead an invitation to the main page can be included. This then turn the non-comment platforms landing pages to the main site. Ultimately it comes down whether one thinks that the different cultures of each media are sufficiently diverse to engage simultaneously. Eventually services are generated that aggregate content from different sites into one, such as http://sproutsocial.com/ or https://buffer.com/ or https://hootsuite.com/ but this makes sense for business use of monitoring conversations, but at a personal level if one needs a one-place stop to watch all the conversations, it is a case of "filter failure" as discussed by Clay Shirky https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LabqeJEOQyI
