Lust and Love
The idea of this buzz resulted from the exchange of messages I had recently with CityVP Manjit. Manjit made great comments on my previous buzz and so I sent him a thanking message. In the message I wrote “In reading your comments on my buzz and find their thoroughness I feel like pausing from writing. You have such broad knowledge and depth that I lost my lust for writing”.
Manjit responded with this message. “Your lust for writing can be substituted by your love for writing for the simple reason that love has no weight to it, I don't think of myself as having broad knowledge only open inquisitiveness.
I wish I could develop a lust for writing because this is where you are the greater person, because lust contains a connection that love of writing does not, because it involves an audience. Love of writing is different to love of people - your lust for writing is driven by an awesome love for people. We live in a society where lust is looked down upon and love is put on a pedestal - but "love for writing": is the writing not the relationship. You have developed such a great relationship with your readers that the paradox here is that lust for writing in your case is fueled by love for people.
My love of writing is an island of excellence but it is an island. In reading your writings you have helped me see that love of people is a great thing and that kind of love carries a much greater weight - so long as you know that what drives the lust for writing is that greater love.
This switching between writing for yourself is something I prosper in, it is what makes us each who we are - and in how you write and how you express love for people through your writing, that is lust of the highest value - a writing that will always remain greater than mine”.
Manjit challenges many prevailing thoughts on lust and love. For example, Glenn Stok wrote an article titled “Can Love and Lust Coexist in a Relationship”? In the article the author states “If a man who is in an emotional affair starts to fall in love with a woman who he respects, then he finds himself confused with having the thoughts of love and lust at the same time”. This is contrasting with the view Manjit expressed “so long as you know that what drives the lust for writing is that greater love”.
Lust is normally associated with bad meanings. The lust for life, the lust for sex, lust of the eyes are examples of what I mean. Lust of the flesh is manifested in many ways such as backbiting- in reality it is lust for the flesh of others. Lust for sex is obvious. Lust for life is in fact lust for deprivation of others of their rights by “hijacking” their achievements by claiming them.
The lust of life or for life- do they differ? I wonder if “of” or “for” make such a difference. No matter what this lust reminds me of the 1956 video “The Lust for Life”. The plot summary reads as follows. is This lauded drama depicts the life of revered Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh (Kirk Douglas). An intense and imaginative artist, Van Gogh possesses undeniable talent, but he is plagued by mental problems and frustrations with failure. Supported by his brother, Theo (James Donald), the tormented Van Gogh eventually leaves Holland for France, where he meets volatile fellow painter Paul Gauguin (Anthony Quinn) and struggles to find greater inspiration.
It also reminds me of Lana Del Rey and her song- Lust For Life.
In the AIDA Loop we move from Awareness to Interest to Desire and Then Action. Should we consider the revision of this loop to include Lust post Desire so that we may Act. The loop would then become AIDLA. My answer is yes.
Do you think love and lust are compatible? Or, that love is lost in lust?

Thank you Yolanda Ávila - Kaizen Proyectos. In general, the impression on lust is negative. My use of the words lust for writing started the idea of this buz. Lust may have a positive side if the lust for writing is to write posts with meaning.

I like your new thought here Franci🐝Eugenia Hoffman, beBee Brand Ambassador. "Lust and love are compatible, but only temporarily"- why would they become so and not continue as compatible is the question I am asking myself now. Still pondering on

Dear Isabella M Wesoly= I do miss our exchanges of comments and co-authoring of presentations. You are a magnificent thinker. I love your idea: AIDA Loop could become a LALIDAL i.e. LOVE to Awareness; LUST via Interest; Desire to Action, culminating in LUSTRE (result/s) Your comment resulted in Lustre.

Sometimes I feel dear friend Edward Lewellen that our interpretation of words and mainly words with double meaning are related to our focus. I have my own story. Unfortunately it is in Arabic. There is a word written exactly the same way. The word is nashtum or by slightly changing its reading it reads nashtom. The first word means smell and the second one means curse. So, in one of my training classes I wrote the word and asked attendees to read it and give the meaning it had on them. Almost the group was divided in 50:50. Next, I added the word flowers. And still 20% read it curse the flowers and not smell the flowers. You are spot on.

Dear Edward Lewellen poignantly said "make sure you understand the meaning the person whom you're speaking with gives the word(s)". Also thank you for your message on LinkedIn while my hands were in repair mode. What I did was my own mistake but I am glad that the human body is a gracious biology that fixes the missteps we physically take. My hands were not anywhere as serious as the year you were away. You too experienced gracious biology but in comparative terms my small self-inflicted injury is not at all comparable with a life and death ordeal. I thus am reminded about this sense of proportionality and meaning of meanings.

I don't disagree i guess it's the nuance of how the words were described during your narrative. Covet, to own something someone else has, lust is to want something different than what you have (harvey:) English Dictionary, 3rd edition)

At the risk of confusing the heck outta both of us Harvey Lloyd, I have 'covet is (oxford English: Yearn to possess (something, especially something belonging to another), which may be a baby-hair's breath away from 'Covet is to believe you own it and jealously protect it.' This form of lust is the one we don't want in our zeal, no?

Yes i am comfortable with the quote and the premise of the quote. Where we invest so shall we reap. If we invest in those we love then desire will be present when it's hard to love, we shall reap the reward of this effort, peace and joy.

I am reading this and many other references. Still pondering on what I read. This might interest you. As I am using mobile i find it difficult to copy and paste the reference. I shall do that tomorrow. Here is what captured my attention. "Whenever there is love and lust, the luster of life tends to follow. Those with a lot of love and desire in their lives usually find it easy to access that spine-tingling thrill that makes us feel like our lives have meaning". Are you comfortable with this quote Harvey Lloyd? By the way I found a great reference relating minerals to personality type and mainly the luster of those minerals. I shall report tomorrow.

I would say that there is a fine hair split between covet and lust. Covet is to believe you own it and jealously protect it. Lust is more the dreamy mental attitude of wouldn't it be better over there. Both distracting of course and if left unchecked can drive you insane. Be careful with introducing all the words as my mind might get confused here.

The man that meets a women or the woman that meets the man may have desires, normal. It is lust when that encounter includes one of them being married or otherwise committed. Lust is an emotional response to something we think would be better than what we have. Lust like fear should drive us in our love. Not something we should pursue, but rather something to motivate change in our current paradigm.

I really need to digest your comment in a much greater depth than I have done Harvey Lloyd. For example, you wrote "lust can not exist where something in love is not already present". But then how many people lust a woman upon their eyes falling on her. They haven't met this woman before and yet they lust her. Sometimes lust develops into love. Your idea here needs careful study my friend. The other line that captured fully my attention is "Don't confuse lust with desire. Desire is the driving force behind purpose. Lust is the disconnect from desire into a mental vacuum". Can we transform lust for something into a burning desire to do it? My friend I am just thinking now and shall be back once my thoughts have crystallized on responding to your deep and challenging comments.

OI agree with you. With lust there is more focus my dear Tausif Mundrawala. But with all honesty there are other dimensions to consider. Some people connect lust with desire only for sex. This could serve in bettering our understanding. For example, when lust for flesh is occupying somebody's mind then his mind is focused on satisfying this desire. Whether this desire is for writing or for sex the same concept applies.

Humanity like all other creatures and nature look for the easiest path to outcome. Its natural, and its abundant. Lust although given social context unfairly is a part of this process. "I" could achieve something on my own if everyone else would do as "I" say. Lust. Reality is more complicated. I can't achieve anything if those within my paradigm don't succeed also. Love. My thoughts and sometimes my words, might be lustful, but in action i must always act within love. Serve. Some great thoughts, please tag me on the post, life is a little crazy right now so i am kind of hit or miss.

Interesting...zest must be the scent of lust (in writing or creating), it is the incentive, the moment that everything else stops. Above all, it's fleeting! So zeal is then the chase, the hunt, the desire for that aroma of zest again. If you don't act then, it's lost. Ergo it's lust FOR :) What say you Ali 🐝 Anani, Brand Ambassador @beBee?
