Parasitic Thoughts

Parasitic Thoughts

16046315.jpg

Initially, I intended to write this buzz on cellular times as @Sara Jacobovici urged me to do so. However; during the thinking of the flow of ideas I found myself attracted to other aspects of our lives and I was dragged into writing this buzz on emotions and how they affect our lives benefiting from new research findings.

The shift in my focus resulted from reading a buzz on beBee on the top ten fears of Americans in 2016. These are:

#1 Corruption of government officials: 60.6%

#2 Terrorist attacks: 41%

#3 Not having enough money for the future: 39.9%

#4 Being a victim of terror: 38.5%

#5 Government restrictions on firearms and ammunition: 38.5%

#6 People I love dying: 38.1%

#7 Economic or financial collapse: 37.5%

#8 Identity theft: 37.1%

#9 People I love becoming seriously ill: 35.9%

#10 ObamaCare: 35.5%

Fear is epidemic and may reach a critical mass leading to widespread of fear and its terrible consequences. New findings show that fear, anxiety of the unknown and stress may have far reaching effect on us that was known before. The emotions-carrying molecules travel not only to our brains, but also with specific cell receptors in our bodies. We are made of cells and cells connect to form tissues and tissues form organs. So, if we affect the cells, we also affect our tissues and organs and therefore the whole body system.

It crossed my mind then that parasitic thoughts aren't different from parasites as both affect our cells and the whole body accordingly. Fear is a parasite and its ill-effects could spoil the whole societal body. Amazing are the new findings and how the protein in our cells throughout our bodies respond to stress. Some proteins unfold upon stressing them. If all proteins unfold they form a mess. To stop this some proteins in the same cells isolate the folded proteins in pockets or clamp them to stop proteins from unfolding excessively. You may enjoy five ways on how proteins protect themselves from stress here. It is a great reading with nice illustrations. It turns out that emotions share some very real biochemical links with our nervous, endocrine, immune and digestive systems because we affect the cells that form these systems. The whole body gets affected and not the brains only. The human body uses molecular compounds that travel through the extra-cellular fluids and hook to specific cell membranes like a key hooks on a lock. The science behind all this is fascinating, and the conclusions are staggering. It turns out that biochemical reactions to mental and emotional stimuliyour everyday thoughts and feelings – occur not just in the brain but also, often simultaneously, in virtually every system of your body. These findings show the shortcomings of our dealing with emotions and thoughts primarily on how they affect our nervous system when in fact they affect every system in our bodies. Human bodies are complex and all systems talk to each other. We can't separate electrical signaling from molecular signaling. Emotions release molecules that travel in the extracellular fluid and eventually hook to a cell protein and affect its shape and function accordingly.

0d98eac7.jpg

We have living memories of some events. Triggering those memories leads to eventually a bio reaction that releases peptides which can anchor to specific cells throughout our bodies. Our emotions dictate which peptides get hooked to our cells and thus change its chemistry. Fear could have a butterfly effect as few fearful people may through a whole society into fear. One example is what happened in Peru. A meteorite smashed into an area in Peru, releasing noxious gas that smelled like sulfur. Thousands of people became physically ill, simply from smelling it — and then, as fear spread, people were getting ill just from seeing other people getting sick and smelling only a whiff of the gas. Apparently, our bodies too as a small fear could influence the whole body sending it into chaos.

This brings a main question if humans and trees are both made of cells would trees be affected by negative experiences and fear as humans do! In their own way, plants can see, hear, smell, feel and it is possible they even have a memory. Would studying the effect of fear on trees be relevant to its effects on humans? Trees have tissues and we have. Trees have organs and we have. Trees have systems of how their organs work together and we do. My search on how trees respond to emotions came up with mind-boggling facts, which I shall share with you in my next buzz.

I dare say we humans have been short-sighted not only using a reductionist approach to study the human body. We are guilty of even separating what applies to trees by not considering that they may be also extensible to us. We form a "human forest" as trees form forests. We may extend what applies to tree forests to human forests with adaptations. We need more integration of our perspectives to our world. The fears of trees and fears in the USA are not distant from each other.

May be I should have delayed the publishing of this buzz dear Fatima Williams. Last week I had a teeth problem- it started small, but now has spreaded its virus and ill-effects in my body. Living the experience is far more impactful. What starts with a small problem might uncover many more. We need o educate the new generation that it is not a small issue or not, but how this issue may develop in the future.

Don't our emotions also dictate our decisions? Having a butterfly effect on all the actions that follow. It's so amazing to learn about how our thoughts have such strident effect on our bodies.I do know that the human body is complex but this buzz has expanded so much on how a simple signal can cause chaos and harm us in unreasonable ways. When trees are so intelligent and avoid dangers through the signals. Does human mind fall prey to negative signals and comments or actions.

I am preparing a buzz on plants movement and including some examples that you mentioned in your rich comment Praveen Raj Gullepalli. I shall also mention some of the work Indian scientists did. The issue of what stimulates plants and how they respond just shows how less we know than some plants. Your lovely comments motivates me to continue with this journey and I am truly grateful to you.

Deb Helfrich-surely this segment of your comment is a nugget of wisdom "The more we can learn to trust our bodies the better off we may be. Then we can focus on responding to our environment rather than trying to control it". You are very correct. The mentality of control is still prevailing. We need to change that. Trees respond and adapt; we try to control the uncontrollable. We continue to pay a heavy price and still try!

I am sure if we think about it, Ali Anani, we would recognize the impact of fear and stress on everything we are. Yes, our brains suffer. Yes, our bodies suffer. The whole organism suffers! I hadn't considered including trees in my thinking, but now? Now I have to at least consider that. Thanks for a most-unexpected buzz!

I never ignore a suggestion from Ali Anani, 12, 14, my individual gut reaction is the following. Because we individuals are dependent on a group/community for survival, there has always been and always will be those who use our dependency to their advantage. Marketing is the perfect example. From the snake oil salesman to subliminal messages to the "image" of the day, to manipulating information discovered in research studies about how we process things or what influences our behaviours, we are told how we need to be feeling, how we need to look, where to live, with who to live and how to measure success (to name just a few). Our challenge, is to do what you're doing Harvey, be aware of what's ours and what's theirs; be a member of the community with our eyes and ears open.

I agree. This is a sour subject for me. TV, media and many other communication methods walk forward with the understanding of how the brain works and people respond. This knowledge should be sacred. We should never "manipulate" someone to our own ends. We should speak truth, seek understanding through dialogue and accept the outcomes. This is a vigilance area for myself. When i sense my emotions being raised in normal communications, i question the source. Sometimes it proves to be thought provoking and i discover new things about humans and my own experience. Your posts have this effect, Ali Anani. But i find in many cases people or media are trying to manipulate my emotions to their advantage, vantage point or belief. I cant define the difference between the two types of communications. But like the Supreme Court Justice in America stated, I cant define pornography, but i know it when i see it". I know when someone is communicating in a way that is leveraging my brains systems and not me as a conscious person. To add to the comments of my original post, someone else is building my throne room of fear. I too, am interested in Sara Jacobovici take on this line of thinking.

Harvey Lloyd will respond to this segment of your comment "A basic understanding of human behavior is now being used to move our thought patterns towards what we know is self destructive. But we walk blindly because of group think". This is a fear and special kind of and how this fear would propagate is worthy of careful attention.

Sara Jacobovici this comment, "b. Psychology The spread of a behavior pattern, attitude, or emotion from person to person or group to group through suggestion, propaganda, rumor, or imitation." Is the one that burns my hind parts. Behavioral patterns were once those of honor and integrity. Today the understanding of this quote is actually being used as a method of control. Remember the subliminal messages in movie theaters with a flash of a coke or popcorn? We were appalled at the fact that these tricks to suggest subconsciously we needed a coke. Today we actually have people who do group study to determine what words will incite what emotion withing politics and other communications. A basic understanding of human behavior is now being used to move our thought patterns towards what we know is self destructive. But we walk blindly because of group think. I am reminded of a statement, "If you are not the lead dog, the view never changes." I am sure the context was different when i heard the statement. But in this context, we have to move out from behind the group and sample our surroundings. Test group think. I would also think that "media to person" should be added to the definition.

No matter how much references we may check still there are more. I have searched literature thoroughly before embarking on writing this post and I find that I missed the lovely link you shared dear Sara Jacobovici shared on memeo of trees: https://www.bebee.com/content/879898/852744 The Peru experience testifies entirely with your comment dear Sara. I shall surely refer to this comment especially your writing "Contagion is defined both physically, "a. Disease transmission by direct or indirect contact." and psychologically, "b. Psychology The spread of a behavior pattern, attitude, or emotion from person to person or group to group through suggestion, propaganda, rumor, or imitation." I am more eager now to write the next buzz and see how your great comment fits in with trees and how they deal with such issues. The more you comment, the more I have to think. That is the beauty of your fertile comments as they fertilize my mind. Thank you

Sara Jacobovici

Part 2/2 Another point you make Ali Anani writes his comment #3, "Fear is a good emotion. It makes us pay attention when we need to..." Contagion is group fear. Contagion can be a good system of defense, it can communicate to us what we need to pay attention to and tell us how to use each other to support our experience. Unfortunately the communication between our internal environment and our external environment are no longer in sync. I think the learning we can take from trees is that their system of communication is clear, consistent and predictable. There is so much to learn and take away from you work, it cannot be "communicated" within a comment box. Thank you for the additional information through the links you provide. I would like to share another link, if I may. You write, "Amazing are the new findings and how the protein in our cells throughout our bodies respond to stress." I would like to share a link that describes how proteins remember. http://www.nature.com/news/proteins-remember-the-past-to-predict-the-future-1.11544 Thank you Dr. Ali.

This buzz and the next one are the preludes for the buzz on cellular times dear Sara Jacobovici. You said it all in your writing " and become aware of makes the difference between the quality of the communication and the outcomes". I couldn't agree more and the proof shall be in my next buzz on the integrity of trees in generating outcomes based on the communications they receive. Yes, "talking" goes on all levels. If we change the shape of a cell or its structure this change transfers to the tissues that hold cells together and to the organs that hold many tissues together. Communication to be effective shall affect the unit who in turn shall affect others. I am stunned by the beauty of your comment dear Sara.

Sara Jacobovici

منذ 7 سنوات #7

Part 1/2 Another great work, another great call to action Ali Anani: "We need more integration of our perspectives to our world." So many crucial layers that you build on DR. Ali creating a supportive structure to hold them all. I would like to highlight the following: "Human bodies are complex and all systems talk to each other." We are not just reflexive; a stimulus runs up a nerve pathway directly to the brain and the brain sends a response directly to the part of the body that needs to act. Classic example, we touch a hot stove and we pull our hand away. The "talking", as you show us, goes on all levels. Communication takes place continuously and concurrently; reflexive, cellular and everything in between. What we are conscious of and become aware of makes the difference between the quality of the communication and the outcomes. One area in medicine today that is still at the very beginning stages of understanding and treating is the pain. And it is still at this stage because of the complexity of systems that are communicating, or not, with each other and what we then experience as a result of that communication; what we allow to be heard and what is silent or what we block.

Harvey Lloyd- Brilliance you writing is "The majesty of nature for me is that they truly represent the perfection of life without fear". Yes, little fear is motivating; in contrast; overdosage isn't. I hope in my next buzz to be able to throw more light on this great comment.

In our business we work with employees and i see the reduction in their ability to experience life because of the throne of fear. I have always felt that experiencing life is reachable by everyone. Trees or nature shows us the way. Never allow the throne room to be built, and battle every stone placement when fear tries establish itself. The majesty of nature for me is that they truly represent the perfection of life without fear. They live.

Dear Harvey Lloyd- your comment is so integrated and comprehensive that I feel it is illogical to approach it with a reductionist approach. However; two points hugely attracted my attention. 1- Fear is the storage unit for all other emotions and 2- I picture a great hall of ancient times inside our minds where we have built a throne for fear. With all honesty I am so absorbed with the beauty and integrity of your comment such that I don't want to comment because your comment is beauty on its own.

Fear, as of late, has become a fascinating motivator to study, Ali Anani. Fear is the storage unit for all other emotions. We express our fears through other labels of emotions. From our perspective trees may experience emotions in their outward appearance. I believe (not sure) that trees do respond to trauma in their chemical ways but lack the fear that humans would normally associate with the activity. I look forward to your next buzz concerning these thoughts. Fear is a good emotion. It makes us pay attention when we need to, along with many other attributes within a trauma experience. Trees recognize that trauma is a part of life and have developed systems to manage crisis. A storm comes and branches break, chemical processes begin to heal the storm damage, but they live to touch the sun. They don't stand at attention waiting for the next branch to break. I have found with humans, fear becomes an automated sub-conscious response. I picture a great hall of ancient times inside our minds where we have built a throne for fear. He sits upon this throne with his minions at his feat. His minions Guilt, Anxiety, Pride and many others await his commands. These "parasites" are sent forth to invade our thoughts. The odd thing about these minions, they show up and we never question their arrival. We just act upon them as though they are messengers of great wisdom. The broken branch now becomes a symbol of our discontent. Healing is either slow or never happens. We focus on satisfying the minions call and not the branch itself. As always you make me clarify my thoughts of our existence within nature.

Thought-provoking comment dear debasish majumder. Many times the harm is from within us my friend such as negative thinking and fear. I agree with you "a new quality emerge from a former one and we cannot resume the former state as before we experienced". However; I still need to understand more your idea "our lives roll on in the passage of time, which proves our supremacy, unlike trees". Trees evolve and have memory , they fear and also evolve. We are living cells and so are trees. You must be having an idea behind this statement my friend. In my next buzz I am dealing with this issue as mentioned in this buzz. Thank you dear for provoking my mind.
