Sandy Societies
A grain of sand blowing will do little harm. Millions of sand grain blowing together may drain the soil of its nutrients, cause havoc to life in different forms such as halting flights. Sand particles are loosely held so that the wind may carry them in huge numbers easily. Seeing “clouds of sand” covering the horizon is a known feature of the deserts in the Middle East.
An ant living in flooded forest will sink if it was not for their integrative coherence. Each ant realizes it shall sink unless it sticks to the ant next to it. They do and a light and air-filled raft emerges helping the ants to float. No way will the ant leave the raft till they reach land.Birds realize the value of their collective flights. The birds reduce the energy required for flying up to 72% when the fly in V-formations. Fish do the same for safety. Integrated societies can achieve much more than disintegrated ones.
Trees amazingly do the same. I quote this from the an article on the secret life of trees. “A tree is not a forest. On its own, a tree cannot establish a consistent local climate. It is at the mercy of wind and weather. But together, many trees create an ecosystem that moderates extremes of heat and cold, stores a great deal of water, and generates a great deal of humidity. And in this protected environment, trees can live to be very old. To get to this point, the community must remain intact no matter what. If every tree were looking out only for itself, then quite a few of them would never reach old age”. Moreover, the constituents of trees shows integration and collective action. For example, the closely knit cells afford some protection against physical shock.
I love watching the Indian movie Laggan. Laggan is the tax on crops. A small town in India suffers not only from a drought, but the whims of British control. People of the town were asked to pay double tax. A young man of the town protests he is given a challenge – if his town can win a cricket match against the British, there will be no tax to pay. But if the town loses, it will have to pay triple the tax. Would people accept? It was a matter of survival that led Indians integrate and form a raft that helped them win the cricket match.
The disintegration of societies into sand-like particles that gets blown away by the wind of change is an interesting topic to explore. Social disintegration is the tendency for society to decline or disintegrate over time. There are many causes for social disintegration such as loss of soil fertility. Sandstorms can lead to this lack of fertility. As the force of wind passing over loosely held particles increases, particles of sand first start to vibrate, then to leap.
Are the winds of change blowing humans as if they were sand-like particles? May be the need to survive would cause human beings to re-integrate. Real integration is the humans raft so as not to sink in their own sand.

#71 It could be a fractal disintegration. The obvious hegemony carried by the economic elites, which are subjugating the whole humankind by means of fear (fear to lose your job, house, way of living), greed and selfishness, is at the moment maintaining us with a feeling of living under chains which are impossible to break. This situation is something that for our children is the only reality they have lived. They don't know that it was a time on which human rights (the right to have a decent home and job, for example) had a real meaning, and achieving them it was not only a war to fight, it was as well something achievable and achieved. And they live their lives under these chains, not seeing any possibility to react and raise. So if this is our legacy, yes, we are to see a fractal disintegration, on which our grandchildren will repeat the same formula again and again

Ali 🐝 Anani, Brand Ambassador @beBee...Timing is everything. I was just commenting on another post about an incident I had last night in a restaurant. The jist of it is we were waiting for a table to be cleared as our party was the next to be seated...It was very busy, so the wait times were about 30 minutes...As I stepped away from the hostess desk to allow others in to give their names, a different hostess appeared and immediately seated the party behind us in line...not realizing we had arrived first...Somehow my name was not put on this list simply because we were about to be seated. By the time I turned around and realized what was happening, this other party was directed to our table and seated...Now my knee-jerk reaction was to approach the hostess and inform her that we were there first...I tried to wave her over, but she just smiled and went in the opposite direction...When my eyes met one of the patrons now sitting at our table, she too simply smiled away my at agitation...clearly realizing they had just bumped us from our table. Once the hostess was informed by the other staffer of the mix up, she could clearly see the fury in my eyes...several times offering me some water (probably to douse the flames) as I stood waiting another 20 minutes. But she never made any reference to the mix up...which ticked me off even more, but made me realize the intensity of my feelings did not match the stimulus. My fury at the situation was a symptom of a deeper issue... When I 'slept on it' the answer was revealed in a dream as several memories came flooding back to me concerning other women encroaching upon my personal 'space' in relationships...Hell hath no fury...right?!?!

#61 & all: The trouble is desire. We are not ants or trees; nothing so noble alas. Just reading Renée 🐝 Cormier's latest buzz' are just the most recent of our realization that 'we're not in Kansas anymore'. We are in big trouble, and all the good peeps hoping to make things right cannot prevail without everyone else desiring the same outcome: that is a huge challenge when our global population is exploding and resources are stretching. From my point of view, the 'have & have-nots' are growing. We can't ignore that suicide is 2/3rds more prevalent than murder. If we don't face up to the fact that we are sick, we are lost. The trees and the ants will be THRILLED :)

#35 Dear Ali 🐝 Anani, Brand Ambassador @beBee, thank you for providing questions that allow for opportunities to look beyond my initial response. When it comes to purpose, the response to asking "why" reflects a snapshot of the purpose as it manifests in the moment. As a process oriented person, I see the need to continue to ask why as my purpose takes shape. The WPD Factor is a crucial aspect of the quality of the why, the quality of the purpose, and so to the quality of the outcome. In regards to the collaboration/integration relationship, at this time, I envision that bringing an integrated self to the collaboration will yield the maximum effect. Thank you Dr. Ali for encouraging this dynamic discussion and exchanges.

"An eye for an eye...If i am afraid then i must utilize this fear to make my boss afraid. I refer to this as emotion matching. When we think about that space between stimulus and response our purpose should remove emotion matching." This is what I refer to as 'taking a knee....Not an easy thing to do when you are ticked off or fearful...but in the moment of the 'trigger' is when the time is ripe for removal or reversal...I love your term 'emotion matching' Harvey Lloyd...Because that is exactly our knee-jerk reaction to trying to 'one up' our opponent. Fortunately for most of us, these intense moments of fear and anxiety do not occur on a daily basis...so what we can do now as a preparedness practice in anticipation of such events is recognize our responses in those petty annoyances that do tend to emerge daily...Stuck in traffic, cut off at an intersection or in line at the grocery store etc...and utilize that 'space between' to check in with ourselves and down regulate the emotion. Ali 🐝 Anani, Brand Ambassador @beBee... "Social disintegration is the tendency for society to decline or disintegrate over time." Make no mistake about it...This is a state of being that requires daily practice to shift as we have created an intolerant society under the current mindset... It's like playing an instrument, it takes a constant state of fine tuning our thoughts...so if we can make the shift at the moment of impact, such as described above, we'would be making great strides in shifting those winds of change;-)

Thank you Harvey Lloyd. I made a point in asking if the purpose is fixed or slightly variable? The reason is an article that an author published and he advocated the change of purpose. In our previous comment #6 you wrote "Purpose must stand up to the test of time. Purpose does not change, tasks, methods and best practice do". I know your stand. However; I am exploring this issue in more depth of its waters. You get my mind busy. How can I have a relax my friend?

I would answer the question, Does our purpose change as we grow? no. I enjoy discussing the watering trough but usually do not wish to force folks to drink. To drink from the water of life we must experience things in their own way. In order to explain the answer to the question we need dive a little deeper into the water. I express no because our purpose is really a part of our being. If we could use the quote, love your neighbor as yourself. Then in the boss analogy the boss is still my neighbor. So within that purpose i must enter the bosses office as if is my neighbor and treat the boss as i would want to be treated. My boss may not share the same purpose, but, this is the big but that i believe Cyndi wilkins was hinting, i am not relieved of my purpose because my boss doesn't share the same one. In today's society this is why i don't speak to the water of life. Somehow we find ourselves that eye for an eye is the purpose. If i am afraid then i must utilize this fear to make my boss afraid. I refer to this as emotion matching. When we think about that space between stimulus and response our purpose should remove emotion matching. So our purpose is a choice that, no matter what, we live by that purpose in all settings. This doesn't mean we don't perform in fear or anxiety, it only means that this is our purpose within that envelope. This is where courage comes.
Ali Anani

Reading your comment Harvey Lloyd answers an important question. Does our purpose change as we grow? The answer is yes if we are to apply your acronym "mental corrective action plan, or MCAP". The correctness of not assuming is one example. When a boss calls us to his office we assume something bad. I live this experience in my office. Whenever I call an employee to my office I can see worry on his/her face. The irony is that I call them to thank them for doing a great job.
Harvey Lloyd

I would postulate that the "why" question is really looking at why i see the situation as i do. Which in most cases would lead to additional questions of why as we delve deeper into our own self awareness. I would further think that our identifying a new purpose within the area we are becoming self aware, through why, we would also develop a mental corrective action plan, or MCAP. I live in a world of acronyms so i thought i would add another. Your boss invites you to the office for a chat. Immediately we think negative, why? Well the word boss is associated with control over our paycheck. Why does the "boss" have this power? Where in my synaptic journey did boss get associated with controlling my value to society? Why isn't my skill set enough? The questions can go deeper but we will leave it there. Unfortunately these questions have a dark side. Apathy. We can run the questions from the boss's point of view and decide the boss is an idiot who is power freak. When really these questions are there for us to not only empower ourselves but the boss also. I heard a speaker that discussed dating yourself. This question series are some of the questions we should ask on our first date with ourselves.

Fascinating Harvey (because you never fail to surprise!); 'purpose.' A loaded word is there was one, no? You can do things on purpose, seek purpose, take purpose to drive you to excel, lose purpose. I could not agree more with the quote. The amazing aspects that get pointed out but are elusive, somewhere in history man created social standards for themselves and it was useful at the time for the community. Yet today when the problems of that era are long gone we hang on to solutions that are in search of a problem. We are sentient beings we should not only recognise the mismatch but should be able to self regulate our thoughts to better understand the problems of today. Then seek solutions. But these bygone solutions are deeply entrenched in our psykie. I am reminded that a carpenter sees all solutions through a hammer and a nail. When we are gifted with such an amazing brain. We have lost the fundamental insights of our ancestors of humanity. The solutions were born then to create a better human existence, based on their needs. Great quote, Laurent Boscherini

Yes, still on the PURPOSE kick. When we look at that music we could make a purpose statement that encourages us to become the "egg" that binds folks together within tasks, methods and environments. But this purpose has a side effect within our personal paradigm. It humbles us. Our personal glory is given to the team or group in hopes that all will share the glory for the greatness of the group. President Bush senior said," A rising tide lifts all boats." Our purpose should focus on raising the tide of the group.

My dear friend Lisa Vanderburg- I find the words to describe your comments in general. It is "Maybe we all need to find the inner music that we lack to bind us". Your words help me find the inner music within me. Yes, trees are social. Ants are social. Not only social, but individuals are in support of each other so that a solid and supportive society emerges. The strength of individual integrating to achieve a great goal is far greater than the summation of the individuals' strength. I glad you enjoyed the Lagaan song. Great and super insight by the insightful dear Edward Lewellen. You nailed the truth. No winner can do it without the support of others. Like you said it is a network of support. A great soccer player has coaches to train him. Nutritionist to advise him on what to eat and when to eat. A doctor to look after his weak muscles and strengthen them. The list goes on. I do appreciate your comment. I dare say there are no individual heroes without social support. Fragmented or disintegrated societies don't produce high talents. Does this explain why advanced nations produce winners? I believe so.
