The Honeycomb of Ideas

The Honeycomb of Ideas

QbeBee

Living systems have repeating patterns. The patterns on giraffes, the patterns of birds flying in V-formations, the patterns in human lungs and the spiral patterns of cauliflower are just very few examples of repeating patterns in nature. Humans produce repeating patterns such as the repeating 8-wave structure of the stock market.

I dare say that for every pattern in nature there are parallel ones somewhere else. For example, pendulums oscillate in repeated pattern. There must be analogous ones somewhere else. It is not surprising that we find molecules or chemical reactions exhibiting similar oscillations. You may see molecules oscillating between two states (colors in this case) in the following video:

Repeated patterns are a way of organizing open social structures. To form repeated structures the following triad must keep flowing: energy, matter and information. It is not surprising that even in the building of honeycombs this fact is observed. Contrasting all known facts how bees build their honeycombs is the new research finding. The perfect hexagonal array of bees’ honeycombs, admired for millennia as an example of natural pattern formation, owes more to simple physical forces than to the skill of bees, according to a new study. In this post "How honeycombs can build themselves?"Engineer Bhushan Karihaloo at the University of Cardiff, UK, and his co-workers say that bees simply make cells that are circular in cross section and are packed together like a layer of bubbles. According to their research the wax, softened by the heat of the bees’ bodies, then gets pulled into hexagonal cells by surface tension at the junctions where three walls meet. Hexagons divide up the space using the smallest wall area, and thus, for a honeycomb, the least wax. But the story doesn't stop at this stage in view of another recent research finding. Golden ratio is observed in the elliptical honeycombs.

Honeycombs are formed by simple rules and contained with elliptical shape, which is controlled by the Golden Ratio. This is the boundary of the honeycomb attractor. The cybernetician Heinz von Foerster formulated the principle of "order from noise" in 1960. According to this principle, self-organization is facilitated by random noise that let the system explore a variety of states in its state space. This increases the chance that the system would arrive into the basin of a "strong" or "deep" attractor, from which it would then quickly enter the attractor itself. Once in the attractor, the system is constrained to stay there. For how long have bees been constrained in their elliptically-shaped hexagons? Or, birds in the V-flying forms?

We may view the formation of attractors from a different perspective. I was reading this thinking article Destiny, Karma and the Law of Attraction - Esoteric Science when I wondered if the interaction of this triad shapes our lives by sending us into attractors that we fall in. Destiny is not fate as fate is determined by external factors. Destiny is essentially a series of opportunities that enable us to learn lessons, acquire new abilities, develop our consciousness and help others. Fate is Karma or the cause-effect relationship. How we act shall determine the effect of our actions. It is what we learn from these lessons that shall affect our destiny. If we think positively we shall attract positive things and we in turn shall affect our thinking positively. Our actions shall be positive and even if we don't get the expected results we shall then learn from them and improve (hopefully) our destiny and that we may fall in an attractor that appeals to us. When we have attractions that bring positive actions and positive thoughts we might get flying.

Our flying thoughts might arrange following the same rules that flying birds follow and we might end up with thinking patterns that shape up our lives.

4fac9d25.jpgLike bees build hexagonal honeycombs by melting the wax through their body heat so that a honeycomb emerges, we need to heat up waxy ideas so that they may melt and fill the affinity hives that beBee is working on. But the waxy ideas shall only melt if we generate enough flow of energy to make those ideas build the honeycomb in each affinity hive. It is not only establishing affinity hives, it is also allowing for the efficient structure to keep the honey ideas within.

Dear Barbara Watson- you wrote my name as Amani and interestingly enough this is a loveable word and name in Arabic meaning good wishes. I wish I could express my gratitude to your superb comment. We shouldn't make the negative more negative. Your approach as stated in your comment " ..but each day, in some small way we must put something positive in the life of a child". Yes, i agree and I am aware of the fact that breaking patterns takes effort. I can't thank you enough for writing this valuable comment.

Yes, I agree as I see thoughts as the winds that move tree. The stronger the wind is, the more movement of the tree as a whole, branches and leaves move also. Yes, the tangible actions of the intangible forces. Greeting to your wise wife

Having just finished reading your comment der Fatima Williams. The last art of it reads powerfully "Our life is like hot liquid wax where we need to act , think , gain , lose and constantly shape ourselves into the waxed object we want to be, by constantly changing our temperatures( thoughts/actions etc) to suit our destiny".You know I feel now a buzz for an author is the waxed object he/she presents to the readers. It is readers with such "hot" and valuable comments that melt the wax and allow for its stretching and folding so that new ideas may appear. Thank you Fatima and I find your feedback is of immense value.

Such an enriching buzz dear Ali Anani The honey you produce is filled with knowledgeable information and is thought provoking. It's amazing how nature works with the beautiful bees to bring up such amazing patterns in the hives. The video on the molecules oscillating between two states was pretty fascinating. I've never given much thought about Karma but I do agree that our destiny is in our hands " Destiny guides us towards a specific goal, but without our wilful participation we will not achieve our destiny ( From the laws of Destiny). Nothing that happens in our life happens without our consent , every success and failure was derived from our actions and thoughts. Destiny is like an waxed thing or object , it can be anything , anything we choose to be and it can always be melted to suit or change the way we want our destiny to be. Without our wilful participation nothing happens in our life. All the comments here on this buzz are pretty intriguing. Absolutely loved the read. Thank you :) Our life is like hot liquid wax where we need to act , think , gain , lose and constantly shape ourselves into the waxed object we want to be, by constantly changing our temperatures( thoughts/actions etc) to suit our destiny.

"the thought-to-thing paradigm"- this quote from you comment Praveen Raj Gullepalli interested me. Converting mass to energy follows Einsteins's equation. Converting ideas to thing is in the opposite direction. I would love to hear more from you dear Praveen

In a way you are referring to photosynthesis of ideas Sara Jacobovici. Instead of sunlight we have energizing ideas. Great thinking

Difficult challenges have not prevented you up to this point Ali Anani. I don't imagine they ever will. If I had to place a vote, I would say that thoughts are energy and their engagement produces ideas which in turn form mass. I hope there is some sense to what I just tried to convey. Looking forward to your future work, Dr. Ali.

It is no secret that this buzz took me a great effort to write dear Sara Sara Jacobovici. I am so glad that you captured the essence of it by asking thorough and relevant questions. I am as puzzled as you are by nature. The few comments so far on this buzz has send my mind in different directions and each direction has more questions than answers. For example, are great ideas staying on the edge of chaos? When we accept ideas for long times and we don't question their viability do we place them in deep strange attractors and they become difficult o move? If I use this metaphor and by saying moving ideas then I am referring to ideas as matter with mass. Are ideas matters? Or, are they energy? Can we convert shining ideas from mass into energy? If we talk about conservation f energy do we then talk about conversion of ideas? If deas are energy then in what form? Are ideas like materials some sand-like and others diamond-like then how times have shown that what we believed to be sandy ideas turned to be diamond-like? Are ideas both mass and energy? There are so many other questions and I am planning to discuss in my next buzz. What seemed to be a "light" issue turned out to be a heavy one that need light to expose them. How answering these questions would help in generating great ideas? I am as curious as you are dear Sara

Once again Ali Anani's buzz) to achieve a more stable state and grow? In biomimicry when they are working on a problem they ask, "how would nature respond to this?" Your Buzz, Dr. Ali, has shown us what nature does and how. Why look further than our own backyard for our solutions?

Thank you dear brother Anees Zaidi. Your comment and the preceding one evokes the idea in my mind to consider cycling of ideas. Like we have water cycles, nitrogen cycles and the like so are ideas. I read once that no idea that you think of nobody else hasn't thought about it. It is how we combine them, exfoliate them, integrate them and decompose them (just to give few examples) that make new ideas. I wonder if ideas have trajectories to follow. With all honesty I have to think and build on this buzz. If we have constant flow of ideas like we have constant flow of energy from the sun is different than considering ideas the matter that is exposed to this energy to photosynthesize other ideas. Yes, I have a lot to think about my friend.

Dear Mohammed Sultan- what a lovely comment! I agree and we generate the healt to flow our waxy ideas by brainstorming, imagination, friction of ideas . Yes, ideas need to flow and shape up into new forms. Rigidity shall keep us where we are. And again, if ideas don't melt o follow the flow we may build on them, transform them or branch them. But again, it is flow of information, matter (ideas) and energy. I do appreciate your comment, dear Mohammed.

You are a magnificent thinker dear Praveen Raj Gullepalli and your comments reflects not only comprehension of the post, but also adding tremendously to its purpose. Your writing "...and the Law of Affinity or Attraction enables it by becoming both platform and facilitator for the playing out of the drama" is so deep and you prompt me to think about this double role in a new perspective. Yes, I agree with you "There are fractals, there are clones, and there are patterns". However; many patterns are fractals and may be you want to elaborate more on this lovely triad. I would love to hear what otherreaders may have to comment on your idea that thoughts become things (matter???). If matter, then it fits with the triad of flow of information, energy and matter. I can't thank you enough for writing such a probing comment, dear Praveen
