The Integration of Two Spanish Experiences



I find that the concept of beBee may be best explained by a metaphor extracted from another Spanish experience. The concept of specialized hives becomes very clear with the example of Spanish digital start-up Mylibreto offers advanced widgets to help publishers promote titles online, while offering analytics and sales data. Fernando Fominaya noticed that he was reading less books than before, in an era when anything you need to know is just one click away on a search engine. This is because there were no guides to bees (readers) to find the flowers (books) they look for and that the accessibility to the nectar was difficult. The challenge was to establish a hive for book readers that is accessible, rich in nectar of the quality the bees (readers) demand and helps the bees scouts (book reviewers and content writers) to find. The publishing of just scattered book covers over the web meant that weren't enough nectar available for the readers to visit and even the nectar wasn't the quality the readers (bees) demanded.

The soil that suits the idea seed is blogs as determined by Myliberto. It approaches key book blogs on subjects related to their catalogue and offers them a series of librettos (scripts) related to the blog’s subject, which are embedded on the website and link directly to the book’s e-retailer. With this affiliate marketing strategy blogs benefit from the widgets on two sides: they earn a percentage of the book´s sale for every sale done from the libretos; and also improve their organic positioning in search engines. This is the beauty of beBee. It allows a great degree of freedom in establishing hives with creative ideas that would make beBee a land of creativity. The idea of establishing a "books hive" as discussed above opens the minds to the great possibilities of establishing other hives with definite niches.

Good idea seed falling in well-prepared soil (books hive) in a favorable environment to produce a flower with the nectar that invites the bees (readers) to the flower. The fragrant signal (widget) guides the bee to the content (soil) to decide if the book (flower) is accessible and that it has the fragrance the bee (reader) favors. The more similar books (flowers) there are, the more a scouting bee shall be willing to do a wiggling dance so that similar bees (potential readers) would join. More bees shall require more of same flowers so that they may have enough supplies of nectar. Bees don't change type of flowers easily. The soil (hive) must be kept in good conditions so that more seeds (comments and content) may fall and new flowers of same quality may grow and bees may stay longer.

I believe the reader-book example above serves as a great guide for establishing the concepts of new hives and that beBee Team should benefit from this buzz in explaining more the importance of niche hives and the thinking required before their establishing.

Dear Anees Zaidi- just to be perfectly honest I am unaware of most hives. I don't think of the location deliberately because I know where most of my readers come from. I think also it depends on our versatility. For example, I love reading poetry occasionally, psychology and fields not related to me. It is difficult to tell which hive I am writing to because some buzzes are relevant to more than one. But, there are authors who are more disciplined and focus their writing on one topic. They are like a real bee that visits one type of flowers only. For them writing for a certain hive is not much trouble.

Dear Anees Zaidi- I experienced exactly the same while in Italy. We saw a soldier and my family or I could tell whether this was a living man. His eyes were literally frozen and motionless. It took about fifteen minutes to realize he was a human being. What we write is a statue unless we make of what we write a living story. One that has its eyes moving, discovering, sensing, bewildering or whatever..

Location, location, location- this golden rule seems to apply in locating our buzzes in the right hives. Wonderful thought Dr. Ali Anani! I totally agree with your concept of hives formation and hives utilization. Let me present my take on books, paper books, first. I'm certain, and will remain, that books are the most firm source of getting organized and systematic knowledge. Online resources are highly valuable to add to your knowledge, but the base of knowledge is books. The importance of books will never lose its value. We can check online literature or reference material, but we cannot read and study any literature online. It's not possible in many cases. Despite of all the advancement in technology, a book still is the most convenient way of reading and loving the reading. As far as hives are concerned, there is a need on beBee to present hives in a manner where they become the main source of idea generation. We normally use hives to distribute our work. We produce or write first and look for the relevant hives later. I suggest something different., and this is not only for long-form posts. We should know the spirit of hives and identify every hive in terms of its importance and relevance. We should write for hives, not use the hives to fit our writings. Beautiful contribution this is Mohammed Sultan. I believe the concept extends to whether w are buying a book or whatever else. Assuming a hive is a book what applies to a book applies to a hive.
