Who is the Singer/Song Writer....Elizabeth Woolridge Grant?
After writing a buzz entitled... Music Isn't it just Wonderful Mr Randy Keho commented and asked if I would be interested in joining his New Hive which is called Music/Reviews-Columns "why not I thought" as I have published two or three music buzzes, and all have gone down well with Aaron Skogen and Gert Scholtz so I visited the hive and became a member, but alas there wasn't any buzzes!....so I think this will be the first buzz, and hopefully it will be well received!
Let's get back to who is Elizabeth Woolridge Grant, she was born June 21st 1985 and was raised in New York, after graduating she worked as a waitress this was the time that her uncle taught her to play the guitar and she realised that she would be able to write many a song.
Shortly after this she did start writing songs and performing in nightclubs under the name "Lizzy Grant", it wasn't until 2005 that a seven track disc was registered under Elizabeth Woolridge Grant with the US Copyright Office, but the track titles are currently unknown.
In 2006 she performed live for the Williamsburg Live Song Writing competition, here she met a rep from A&R representing 5 points records whom she signed a record contract with in 2007, during the next few years nothing much was happening it was during this time that she met her current managers Ben Mawson and Ed Millett who helped her get out of the contract with 5 points records.
This was when she moved to London, England with Mawson....and is when her managers came up with her stage name which she is now known by today, that name is "Lana Del Rey" it was in 2011 that she uploaded "Video Games" and "Blue Jeans" to Youtube they became viral internet sensations, she was then signed by Stranger Records to release "Video games" as her debut single.
One thing that gives her the edge is her voice which is an expansive contralto vocal range and is described as captivating and highly emotive, and I am inclined to agree with this but you can decide for yourselves when you listen to the 2 live performance videos coming up shortly.
Her first album "Born to Die" received mixed reviews on its release in 2012 it was a Number 2 hit in the US album chart and Number 1hit in the UK album chart, her second album "Ultraviolence" went down better with the music critics it received many positive reviews and was a Number 1 hit in both the US and UK album charts in 2014. Her third album "Honeymoon" which was released last year (2015) again received positive reviews and is her most critically acclaimed album as yet, it landed her a Number 2 spot in both the US and UK....not bad for your first 3 albums!!
In my opinion Lana Del Rey will be a critically acclaimed performer and I look forward to her releasing more albums, including her new work which has already had a track leaked onto the internet, but we will leave that one until the album is actually released, in the meantime here are 2 live performances keep a look out for this singer she will definitely be a star of the future....
Here's the first one it's called "Ride"
And we will finish with "Born to die"
Some of you may have heard Lana Del Rey, but for those who haven't this has been an introduction to whom I think will become a very successful singer/songwriter in the years to come, this has been your resident horticulturist with a buzz for Randy's Music/reviews-columns, thanks for reading and listening feel free to add comments if you wish.
