Music styles: Bossa Nova

Music styles: Bossa NovaHi bees continuing with the series of my preferred music styles today I am going to talk to you about one of my favorite ones, all of them are, but this is special. I will be able to spend my whole life listening this incredible style, yes I am talking about Bossa Nova.

I cannot remember the first time I listen to this wonderful music, I suppose it had to be some track from Stan Getz or Jobim, perhaps the very first time I watched Black Orpheus on TV, it does not matter, the question is that I love Bossa Nova.

What is clear bees that the origin of the Bossa Nova is at about the 1950s when there was a junction between the traditional Brazilian rhythms and jazz musicians.

Here you have a clear sample of what I am talking about the great Oscar Peterson performing one of the most beatiful compositions ever.

Both, Antonio Carlos Jobim as musician/composer and Joao Gilberto as vocalist, are considered as the Bossa Nova fathers.

And here one of my top favorites albums and this special track, in this case the vocalist is Maria Toledo.

As mentioned Black Orpheus acted as ambassador to the rest of the world for Bossa Nova.

Later on Stan Getz contributed to expand Bossa Nova, as well as Joao Gilberto wife, Astrud Gilberto, with the hit for excellence, The Girl From Ipanema.

The rest bees, you must discover by yourselves, that is the best way to discover things, rather than others telling you what you must listen to.

I just leave you with this.....

These are all classic songs, and surely deserve much attention even nowadays. One thing that is worth mentioning is that, at least here in Brazil, João Gilberto is known not only as a singer, but primarily as a revolutionary guitar player.

(ps: for some reason the video for "Manhã de Carnaval" can only be accessed on YouTube itself)
