The Journey to the Cloud

Computers have come a long way since the 50'

s. Once the size of small cars, today we have devices that fit in our pockets; the exponential growth is indicative of massive technological advancements, but also business advancements as well. For decades, smart business owners have been utilizing computers at every stage to help manage and store data. Moving away from filing cabinet storage has long been the goal for streamlining operations, and through the help of cloud computing we are closer than ever to achieving total digital storage opportunities.

Before 2006, data was not easily stored online. With the roll out of Amazon Web Services and Google Docs, however, cloud based technology became more accessible and easier to use for the general public. Storing photos and sharing them between devices, rather than taking up precious space on our phones a laptop was a big selling point and now nearly everyone interacts with the cloud in some way or another. This extends to businesses as well, and smart business leaders know to use cloud computing to accelerate growth. By 2020, global spending on cloud computing will reach $162 billion, more than double what it was in 2015. Furthermore, cloud technology is projected to grow at over six times the rate of IT growth, as it offers solutions in itself to turn IT from a maintenance department to revenue-generating department.
